Day 73 - 14th March 2015 - Redpolls, Sunrise, Goldfinches and Chickadees

The temperature keeps dropping instead of going up, -11 this morning. Sounds like a mess of weather on it's way for tonight and tomorrow but mostly rain for us and the lovely snow eating fog. Hopefully some more of the ice and snow will disappear. Stars are all out this morning and the lake is "woofing". I'm trying to remain on the positive side and thinking of spring. Another exciting day - grocery shopping in town and Larry will probably want to put some more wood in the basement. Considering the winter we've had our wood is holding out well.
The wind was so cold yesterday, it felt like tiny needles poking at my face as Lexi and I went walking. Sticking to the side of the road, it's easier to move along at a good pace in most spots. Not much opportunity for Lexi to run off leash though. Puttered around the house doing up laundry and the other fun stuff.  Lots of birds at the feeders, Redpolls come several times a day, Pine Siskins returned, Goldfinches, too many Blue Jays, lots of Chickadees, three Starlings and the female Hairy Woodpecker. I think I've made a trade of Evening Grosbeaks for Redpolls this winter, I've not seen a Grosbeak in several months and they've been a regular visitor in past winters.
Redpolls are still showing up on a regular basis.
The soft pink and orange hues as the sun comes up through the trees.

And it becomes brilliant for just a few minutes like a fire ball.
Goldfinches hanging out.

This Chickadee was almost too close to get a shot.
They are still making good use of the Christmas tree.

Enjoy your day!

  1. The sunrise through the trees is brilliant. I couldn't get a good photo this am but it was gorgeous. The flickering light rising up from the sheets of ice. Enjoy the trip to Sobeys!
