Day 213 - 31st July 2012 - Gold finches, Sign of Summer and Glads

Can't believe it's the end of another month. Time flies when you are having fun, that's for sure. Suppose to be fine today but then rain the rest of the week, we can use it but... we have a wedding to go to on Saturday so I'm really hoping it turns out fine then. Today is going to be a repeat of yesterday at work.

Monday was down and dirty, we moved boxes, went through boxes found more stuff to shred - old financial records, etc. nothing of an archival or important nature of course. Re-organized and continued to clean out. Things are looking much better, hopefully we will have this lovely job done by the end of the week.
This gold finch looks like the color of lemon pie.

He doesn't seem to like to have his picture taken, he turned away.
Calm quiet morning over the lake.
Ummm...a sure sign of summer!
The Tall Ships left in the morning, but there are still lots of sailboats in the harbour.
Picture perfect again last evening.
There were a couple of these [I think they are a sparrow] bopping around, flitting from place to place, really cute to watch.
The first of my Glads have started to bloom. Gorgeous yellow.
Guess it's time to play my turn in scrabble, check the emails and get on with things. Enjoy your day!

Day 212 - 30th July 2012 - Sailing Ships and Pirates

Back to Monday and the work week! We are hoping to finish up our cleaning and purging this week and get things back to normal. Fingers crossed - there is still a lot of work ahead of us, but I think we are up to the task. Sky looks like it is clearing, so  it will probably be a nice day.

Yesterday I was wiped out. Didn't accomplish a whole lot. Put together a disk of photos for Errin. Didn't do much in the way of editing, but can do that later if she likes any of them and wants to use them. We went to town took a look at some of the tall ships, got groceries and came home again. It had started to rain by then so a lazy afternoon til supper was perfect.
A pirate boat zooming by - think it might be moving just a tad fast.
One of the Tall ships, docked on the Waterfront. Glad I don't have all that wood to polish!
Love the little froggy in his suit and hat!
Lots of sailing boats around too. Although most of them seemed to be moored. A dismal looking day.
Dark stormy sky hangs over.
A local pirate, haunting Dock Street. Think he must be wearing some spoils of a capture. Dressed pretty good.
Some more ships tied up at the wharf further along.

The marina was full.
Well time to drink my coffee and get the day going. Enjoy your day!

Day 211 - 29th July 2012 - A day at Harmony Bazaar

Sunday has arrived, the last day of the weekend. I've slept in this morning as some of you may have noticed, but with good reason - didn't get to bed until late. Where do I begin - yesterday! I am so sorry I've waited 7 years to go to Harmony Bazaar. There are no words to even say how great of a day I had. I really need to thank Errin for putting out the offer to me to come down to this fantastic festival. WOW! When she puts out the call next spring that advanced tickets are on sale - buy yours. So much talent - young and old. Talked to lots of folks that I knew and didn't know. Everyone was having such a great time. What an experience.
10am, the stage is quiet but the sound guys are busy setting things u for the day.
Bleachers were quiet but not for long they filled up pretty quickly. Some of the volunteers were around doing clean up, getting prepped for an upcoming busy day.
Waiting...
Women - young and old with guitars - so many and so good.
This was awesome, she accompanied another performer with a powerful message and voice.
Some performers wore cowboy boots, some had sandals some had barefeet.
Irish Mythen - every time she took the stage the crowd went wild. Just love her sound.
Umm, I don't think he paid to get in.
Ria Mae - another great sound.
Hats were everywhere.
A quiet moment between artists.
I think these four women were among my favourite - belting out the Dolly Parton tunes.
If you get a chance to hear Irish, please do, wonderful.
Christine Campbell.
The moon began to make an appearance.
The sun had set behind the pavilion and my batteries were running down. Time for me to head home.
I took over 700 pics yesterday and these are just a few of the many great performers who were there. Next year I'm in for the long haul and will spend all three days at the festival.
Today we'll head down and see the Tall Ships - such a busy weekend.
Enjoy your day!

Day 210 - 28th July 2012 - Harbour seagulls/Lake seagulls, Clouds and Boats

It's Saturday and Harmony Bazaar day for me in Lockeport. I am pumped! Battery is charged for the camera. Going to meeting my cousin Tam in town and catch a ride down with her. Hopefully that change of showers they are calling for doesn't materialize this afternoon. In case you don't know Harmony Bazaar is a showcase of fabulous female musicians, artists etc. It's been running a few years now and getting more powerful each year. Tomorrow we'll catch the Tall Ships that are in Shelburne. It's a busy weekend.

Well what a mish mash Friday was. Rained in the morning. Started off really good, lost power shortly after 11am. How many times do you reach for the computer keyboard when the power is out? A lot! HA!HA! First they said 2pm, then it was 4:30-5pm so I told Colin we might as well close up and he could go home. I had to hang around anyway and wait for Larry. No big deal. Just chilled for a bit, power came on at 3:15 so I was around. Nice evening, walked over and caught up on all the news with Lois. Good laughs - lots of laughs!
You are getting some leftovers from the last few days. Didn't take my camera friday as it was raining, and was charging the battery in the evening.
Seagull on the reef. There is usually one or more birds hanging out here.
Sailing school.
The Lake Deception Seagull.
Just a hint of color in the evening sky.

A little bit of blue sky peeks through the clouds.

Time to get another coffee, Larry and Lexi are still in bed and I'll leave them for a while longer. My quiet time. Need to pack up my camera bag, am going to travel light today.
Enjoy your day!

Day 209 - 27th 2012 -Sparrows, the Lake and Sailboats

The end of the work week folks! What are your plans for the weekend? There is so much to do in Shelburne County Saturday and Sunday, I can't wait. Harmony Bazaar is going on in Lockeport and the Tall Ships will be in Shelburne. I'm heading to Lockeport on Saturday and will spend most of the day and evening there, then Sunday we will enjoy the ships. Oh I can see lots of photos this weekend.
I'm up  a bit earlier than normal this morning but that's ok. I can hear the rain on the deck and we need it.  Colin and I have lots to get through today, the Society will be on the Water front for a while Saturday selling books etc. so need to get things ready for that.

Thursday was another day in a great week! Not sure how much we actually got accomplished, but we've had nice researchers in this week which makes things very worthwhile and the book has been selling well. RAH!

I enjoy watching these little sparrows sitting in the fence.
Just like little acrobats!
Very peaceful on the lake yesterday morning.
Even saw a duck in the morning. Had to snap quick as Nanc was ready for me.
The sailing school was out again today.
The lake was calm again last evening, not a sound in the air, nor a ripple in the water. Must be a storm brewing.

Hope you all have a great Friday! Enjoy your day!

Day 208 - 26th July 2012 - Woodpecker, the Lake and more Hummers

Thursday morning and I can see dawn on the horizon, looks like another nice day. Temperature is +11.3 which is actually not bad for sleeping [with a fan going and the window open]. The air feels crisp and clear these day. Not sure what's on the agenda today at the office but I bet there is lots to do - there always is!

Lexi and I had a lovely day off. Weather was beautiful - sun in the sky, nice breeze. We did a bit of laundry, got the dress shortened, made cookies, cooked chicken for Thursday night and scallops for last night - they were so fresh and good. Even tried a new recipe with a few adjustments since I didn't have all the ingredients - roasted zucchini sticks and they were great. It was a nice evening as well, watched the birds out the kitchen window - lots of robins in the yard, sparrows in and out of the fence, hummingbirds at the feeder. Two things on my list for winter - some bird feeders and always have clean kitchen windows!

By request I've delved back into my grandmother's journals.
26 July 1972
Rain early this morning. Cleared before dinner. Has been a lovely day here. We could hear thunder in the big clouds in the north. Kentville had a bad storm - 1.16 inches rain in less than hr. Unbelievable. So nice here. Quite cool to nite. Fran over a minute this afternoon late. Just the usual day. Had vegetables from Dick's (Bower) garden. Peas were so good. Kim full of pep  helping her grandfather. Class was here all day. Nice dog - no time to rain her but she catches on quickly. Planes going like crazy tonight. Didn't go to town today. So nice to stay home.

25July 1973
Another lovely hot day. I went to work alone. Home 2:30 so tired tonight. Lovely sunsets and cool evening.
26 July 1973
Cloudy and fog in morning. Went to town to work. Golfing in the afternoon not a good day. Over cast. Home 15 to 6.

26 July 1974
To town early as usual, overcast. Garden real good now. Still some strawberries. Shelled peas, sugar peas and over to Chalis and Jack's for supper. Real nice. Took sugar peas, swiss chard, lettuce, turnips and carrots. Had a good time. Gertrude and I played crib until 3 o'clock. [This were some of the "Summer People" - several families that had places in the area from various places in the USA. ]

It's been almost a week since Lexi and I walked through the woods in the hood. Ran across this woodpecker.
Another of those not so wild plants in the forest - hosta.
The lake was lovely today.
Lexi and I waded around in the lake for a few minutes.
You'll have to suffer through some more hummingbird pics, since I had fun watching them yesterday afternoon.

This was one of my favourite shots.
He's always on alert, you can see another one buzzing in from the lower right hand corner.
I think he loves the attention of the camera.  That was my day off - pretty sweet I think!
Will soon be time for Larry and Lexi to get out of bed, so I think I'll savour this first cup of coffee. Enjoy your day!
