Day 282 - 9th October 2014 - Song Sparrow, Reflections, Shadows and a Rose-Breasted Grosbeak

Thursday and 4:30 am, going to be another long day. Looks like another nice day on the horizon, stars are all out this morning - that's a good sign. Lots to do in these last few days of work. Exercise class tonight.
It was a weird and wonderful day in the weather department on Wednesday. Overcast, sun broke out, overcast, sun, rain, sun and wind... you get the picture. I was thankful to get out for a good long roam around the hood - even out to the point where I haven't made it for several weeks. It's nice to walk along with the leaves and pine needles drifting down. The hood is quieter these days, I think the summer birds have pretty much left us for another season. All I heard or saw were Chickadees, Song Sparrows, Blue Jays, Nuthatches and others that will remain for the winter. Took Lexi for a couple of runs and puttered around the house.
Lots of Song Sparrows around.
It's amazing how fast these grow.
One of the Islands in the lake.
 Still some beautiful fall colors.
I think my shadow always looks taller.
Just a few fallen leaves on a neighbour's deck.

A few wild flowers still color the roadsides.
I'm afraid the poor sunflower has seen better days.
 Leaves floating on the lake.
Some of the ferns have dried up and died.
Sitting on the deck, feeling kind of sad that the summer birds were gone and wishing for something to come along... and up popped this female Rose-Breasted Grosbeak. Makes the transition a little easier. Time to start filling the feeders again.

Enjoy your day!
