Day 309 - 4th November 2012 - A trip to the Island

Did you remember to set your clocks back before you went to bed last night? Yes it's Sunday and that time of year when most people gain an extra hour of sleep. I managed to force myself to stay in until 5:30am [new time], only because we are somewhere else and I truly hate to roam around some one's house in the middle of the night. Of course Lexi got up with me but I took her out for a few minutes then sent her back to bed with Larry. Lovely and peaceful here. This morning we are going to head to the Tiverton's Firemen's Breakfast before going home. I like to support other Fire Departments when we go somewhere.
Had a great day yesterday. Left home early, got the scrape and metal dropped off then headed to the Island.  Caught the 10:30am Ferry, it's only a few minutes across. After we had lunch Roger and Dorothy took us to Boars Head, which is mostly up hill and I mean up hill - the first jaunt of it feels like it's straight up. What one would call a good cardio workout! It will help to remove the calories from the wonderful seafood chowder and chocolate trifle we had at lunch time. After that, they had an errand to run so we headed back and stopped at Flour Cove to take photos. Beautiful views at both places. We took a little drive around Freeport, along Northeast Cove and back to the house. Great pork stew for supper and I had a hot fudge sundae with coffee ice cream for dessert. This is my all time favourite kind of ice cream dressed the perfect way. A game of crokinole rounded off the evening, then the guys watched a movie. It was way past my time to head to bed.
The little park on Digby Neck that we always stop so Lexi can have a break before getting on the Ferry.
Make the very sharp turn at East Ferry to get to the Ferry.
Looking towards Tiverton from the Ferry.
The lighthouse at Boars Head, so named because the jut of land resembles a boars head when the tide is just right.

East Ferry on the left, Tiverton on the right, the body of water in between is Petite Passage.
The ferry coming in - Petit Princess.
We drove down to Flour Cove, lots of waves and spray!

Looking from the Northeast Cove - you can just see  the lighthouse on Peter's Island in the far right.
Well that's it for now. Enjoy your day!

  1. Beautiful photos!! Glad you had a nice visit...coffee ice cream now your talking...not a huge ice cream lover it wasn't until later yeas we discovered that I was a tad bit lactose intolerant which would explain the upset belly following treats like ice cream. Oh well, I put up with on occasion for a little coffee ice cream. It is absolutely gorgeous in St. John's this morning, I am waiting for my seminar than home again. The sun is shining and it is going to be a good day.....and if anyone messes with it I will kill them lol talk to you soon :)
