Day 82 - 23rd March 2014 - American Bittern, Waves, Harlequin and Ring-neck Ducks

Temperature is -1.6, not bad - suppose to warm up and be fine today. Guess I've got to stay home so Larry can work in the wood pile today. Time to start cutting some for upcoming season. We order it in long (8-10 foot lenghts), he cuts and splits it. We have some left from last year that needs to be cut and moved before the new wood arrives later this month or next. You get great heat from wood but you only have 1-2 weeks out of 52 that you aren't doing something with it. It's a forever job. We've gone through more this winter than the last few so there probably won't be any leftover in the basement.
We had a great Saturday - kind of blew the whole day but sometimes you just have to take a break and go for it. Once I got everyone mobile - Larry and Lexi (wish they were livelier early on the weekends) we got breakfast, gassed up the truck, dropped off the income tax paperwork and headed to Hemeon's Head. It's one of my favourite spots in the county. Weather was fine and not even that cold on the shore. Wish we had gotten there an hour earlier to walk more of the beach but the tide was on it's way in. We spent about 2 hours walking the paths, beach and headland. Not a lot around, some ducks flew in and out, didn't find the Purple Sandpipers but we did find an American Bittern - yahoo! Stopped and got groceries on the way home then a quiet evening with my book. The weather was wild last evening - first hail, then thunder and lightning, snow and finishing off with rain. Lexi was not a happy camper.
American Bittern in flight - only because we flushed him out!
It was a great beach day.
 Lots of waves.
A little foam along the shore.

I like the arms on this old tree.
A little closer to the Harlequin Ducks.
I was laying right there as the waves were breaking over the ledge.
 Looks like a miniature waterfalls.
Ring Neck Ducks - Male and 2 females.

Enjoy your day!
