Day 355 - 21 December 2014 - Woodpeckers, Pine Siskins, Goldfinches and a Barred Owl.

It's the Winter Solstice or shortest day of the year, but on the plus side - the days get longer tomorrow! Last day in the kitchen, (I hope), just a few gingerbread whoppie pies to bake for a special friend, dip the cherries and a few other things, some frosting on cookies and that's it. Sounds like I may be there for a while. Then to put everything into containers  and deliver - Monday or Tuesday. Might get a bit of birding in depending on the weather and what day we get around. So even though I started off late and behind, I think everything is going to come together with a day to spare. It always does, not sure why I worry.
Lots accomplished on Saturday - more cookies baked, another 3 dozen cherries wrapped, just need to be dipped, laundry done, floors scrubbed and I even found time for a short walk. We took a drive over to Upper Clyde to visit friends and was lucky enough to see a Barred Owl on the way. It wasn't far from where we saw two this summer so I'm assuming it's probably one of those. Road is really rough - way too many pot holes.

So each morning a female and male Downy Woodpecker arrive at the feeders and yard.
They really don't care if it's suet or not.
It would seem we are getting low on feed again!
The feeders were busy, along with the Goldfinches were 3-4 Pine Siskins.
A little snow in the woods.
 Foam along the lake shore.
It was nice on the lake but the water looked very cold.
 Still a little colour.
The Barred Owl. Left the phone line and retreated to a tree but not terribly concerned about me.

Enjoy your day!
