Day 7 - 7th January 2015 - Goldfinches, Blue Jays and a Woodpecker

The temperature is -12, but the house is colder than yesterday morning. That's a pain since we are both gone today and the house will never get warmed up - will only get colder. The wood will only last til around lunch time.  I dread coming back home at supper time. Maybe it's too early in the day to thing about that, but this time of year that's what I get. Time for me to cut my winter trips to town every two weeks instead of weekly.
I'm still having a hard time writing 2015 - guess lots of people probably are, after all it's only been a week.
Tuesday remained cold, I think the temperature only made it up as far as -10 and was windy so not sure about the windchill factor. Busy at the feeders, but nothing unusual coming through yet. In fact I've not seen an Evening Grosbeak in over a month and they are usual pretty steady all winter.  It was a good day to be home and putting wood to the furnace - oh yes it's hungry on days like that.  Made a big pot of Turkey Soup with veggies and noodles along with some homemade brown bread rolls. Supper was very good and as expected warmed from the inside out. I had an early night, throat was kind of scratchy, so crawled in bed and read for a while.
Big B. spent her time at the kitchen window. The Goldfinches arrive in a flurry.
They can usually be found at at least three feeders.
And hanging out where ever there is a spare spot.
Their colors have gotten duller or maybe I should say softer.
And I've got three of these furry creatures around the yard in the feeders and everywhere else they can find to go.
The Blue Jays never stay away for long, there were a few Mourning Doves and a single Junco.
The Woodpeckers are daily visitors. She seems to like the feeders better than suet.

Enjoy your day!
