Day 224 - 11th August 2013 - Merlins, Chickadees, Common Yellowthroats and Dragonflies

What a beautiful morning it is out there. I can see the red of the sunrise coming through the trees - first time in a while it's not been a thick layer of  fog and the temperature is +10.5. So cool and crisp. Everyone else is still in bed, thank goodness - I get some time to myself for an hour. Am hoping I can sneak out and check for birds, but chances are Lexi will hear me and get Larry up, so I'll stay put for a while. At least one more ball game to watch, depending on how they do maybe two games. It's been nice having them here for the weekend.
Saturday turned out gorgeous, maybe a little warmer than I like and the humidity seems to have return - no I'm not complaining. Nice breeze picked up after supper. It was a great day spent with family, eating, watching ball games and eating.  I put Larry in charge of that, bought burgers, sausages, etc. things that would be quick between games. Got chocolate chip cookies baked in the morning. They of course were a hit, will probably have to make more before they leave! By the time we got home to stay it was almost 8:30, Larry & Chris played crib, I tidied up the kitchen getting it ready for the next round of meals. Then it was relaxation time.
 Apples are looking good.
 Hermit Thrush
He was so cute, I was "pishing" and he nearly landed on my head.

 Black and White Warbler.
Immature Common Yellowthroat. You can see it's getting darker around  his eyes where he'll soon have a black mask.
 Raven.

I thought this was a great one. Dragonfly.
One of these things is not like the other... A Blue Jay who doesn't know he probably shouldn't hang out with this gang of Merlins.
They were just on the other side of the ball field, my cousin Janet set me in their direction. Being a "ball Mom" she's there all summer and has heard them frequently.

Enjoy your day!
