Day 40 - 9th February 2012 - Bears, Little houses and Hieroglyphics

And the temperature flip flops again at -2.6 this morning, up and down it goes. I can see each day the daylight is coming a little earlier and lingering a little longer in the evening. It's one of the nicest things about waiting for spring.

I wonder with all this mild open winter what will happen. We and nature depend on solid ice in the lakes and snow in the woods to melt come spring and raise the water table, but will that happen this year? I have no idea what the alamacs are saying but seems to me none of this can be a real good thing. Don't get me wrong, I like to wear shoes instead of boots in January and February and not have to bundle up too much. But I think everything has consequences. So I googled the Farmer's Almanac and found this:

April and May will be cooler and drier than normal.
Summer will be warmer and drier than normal in the east and cooler and rainier than normal elsewhere. The hottest temperatures will occur in late June, mid-July, and mid-August. Watch for a tropical storm threat in late August.
September and October will be warmer than normal, with precipitation below normal in Newfoundland and Labrador and above normal elsewhere.

The closest place I could find was Halifax [not surprising]. It actually sounds like a general Nova Scotia summary.

Went to the hall and scrubbed the floor for Sunday, and took a little detour - well actually I just was trespassing, but that's nothing new, excepting I wasn't in my pj's just regular clothes!

West McKay Lake comes into East McKay Lake just beyond where you can see.

Like the other lakes there is a combination of ice and open water.

The trees along the shore reflect in that bit of open water.

And I saw a bear.

This little house must belong to Hansel and Gretal, but I'm not sure.

And last but not least some strange hieroglyphics on a log. Not sure who could have written them.
