Day 142 - 22nd May 2015 - Magnolia Warbler, Tree Swallow, Rhodora and Grandmother's Journal

We've made it to  Friday! Rah! The week passed quickly with the holiday. Hoping today to finish up some ends and odds on the to do list, although most days a couple new things get added. Rain on the way for today, not sure if I'll get much of a walk/birding in this morning. Maybe it will hold off til I get to work.
A little chill in the air in the morning, kept the flies away on Thursday but the birds are beginning to really come out.  Didn't get a lot of good shots, but I'm seeing and hearing more, the photos will come. Spied a Magnolia Warbler, in the same spot as he hung out last year. Not quite as much accomplished as I would have liked at the office but that's the way things go sometimes. And it was a good day just the same. Exercise class last night was a good workout.
Grandmother's Journal:
22 May 1976 - Thunder storm most all night. Not to close but enough to keep me awake. Heavy rain. I cooked and worked all day. Very tired tonight. Cold for this time of year. Fine tonight. Overcast all day.
23 May 1976 - (Bear signs) Overcast south westerly winds, very cool, not much sun. Bettie, Bobbie, Mike worked on trees with Bob. Grounds looking better. Bob mowed a lot, still a lot to do. Believe Tom took after a bear, reason he left and got in his trouble. Fresh bear dirt in dog kennel. Bob had not told me but he and Mike were checking and saw where Bear had been eating grass in dog yard. Bettie, Stan and Phil stopped in for a few minutes this evening.

Magnolia Warbler, high in a tree singing.
No matter how I tried to convince him, he wouldn't come down.
There were a pair of Swallows on the private road, perhaps the same ones that were around my yard earlier in the week.
I couldn't resist this guy on one of the street lights in town.
The Rhodora is beginning to bloom along the lake. Fish won't bite when this is in bloom - old saying!
Most every morning there is a pair of Loons in one of the coves. Surprisingly they are closer than usual. Hoping there is a nest somewhere handy.

Enjoy your day!
