Day 137 - 17th May 2015 - Willets, Savannah Sparrow and Piping Plover

Temperature is +10 this morning, some rain on the way. Maybe it would hold off until supper time, but probably not likely. We are off to Ingomar this morning to enjoy their Fireman's breakfast. Local breakfasts are so great and an easy way to support an organization. We've been trying for some time to get to this one, but always seems like something else comes up. We might even head to Pubnico afterwards to check out some interesting birds which have been spotted the last few days. Who knows where we'll go or what we'll do.
Saturday did not disappoint us in the weather department. Birding, not so fabulous but we were in the opposite direction that I would have like to have gone. None the less it was a good day to be out and we saw more Willets, Green Wing Teals, Gulls, Canada Geese, Eiders, Harlequin Ducks, Piping Plovers and a Brant Goose. I actually had a Cardinal in one of the apple trees around 8am, but was too slow and stunned to realize what it was, so didn't get a decent photo. He spent most of the time behind a number of branches before flying off. So you know I had to check out the neighbour's yards with feeders to see if he may have turned up there but no luck. We went to Pleasant Point - I roamed around the shore and up and down the road with Big B. while Larry looked over what his friend wanted done. Then we headed down to Hemeon's Head.  Lots of exercise and enjoying what nature had to show us. After supper Larry mowed the lawn for the first time this year - and so that begins, but better than shoveling snow. The Blackflies are now hungry as well.
Seems there were Willets where ever I went.
Actually they are much more interesting when their wings are out...
or in flight, and there is no mistaking their voice.

Carters Island Light - I wasn't sure initially which one it was so  checked out our local Tourism website and a great brochure they have which is available online:

 Brant Goose in Allendale.
 Savannah Sparrow at Hemeon's Head.
Saw 2 Piping Plovers at Hemeon's Head, this one was tagged "HE". Looks like he's got an itch.
Love the kelp, seaweed and such on the beach.

Not a great shot - Green Wing Teal, but you can sure see the Green on his wing in flight.

Enjoy your day!
