Day 160 - 13th June 2017 - Mossing and Daisies

Monday was a beautiful day and hot, hot even on the waterfront. Busy at work, helping our Curator with the upcoming exhibit. The blackflies are miserable this year - they are everywhere even in Town. That's one part of summer that can leave as quick as they come. Looks like another nice day coming up. For some reason photos are slow uploading this morning, so I have no patience to wait for more! This internet is better than the old but still not high speed. Lots of birds out there singing at daybreak. I think the Song Sparrows and Red Eyed Vireos would sing all day with very little break.
Mossing in the harbour.
Daisies are such a simple flower but pretty in bunch like this.

Day 159 - 11th June 2017 - Lady Slippers, Yellow Rumped Warbler and Clyde River

Weekend has ended, back to work.Forecast is giving fine weather but the sky was bright red again this morning. It's warm and feels like summer now.  Had a great three days off, but they seem to go so fast! We took a drive up to Bear Brook Sunday morning, heard lots of birds but most of them wouldn't come out of the woods. American Redstarts,Red Eyed Vireos, Chestnut Sided, Yellow, Yellow Rumped Warblers, Swamp Sparrows, Alder Flycatcher, Barn Swallows were just a few. No wildlife other than what was on the road, sadly we came across a dead young Bobcat. Really a shame, someone must have hit it with a vehicle. Then it was back home to do Sunday chores and get ready for the work week.
Lady Slippers are blooming in the shadow of the forest.
 Yellow Rumped Warbler
The meandering Clyde River cuts across the back road.

Day 158 - 11th June 2017 - Lupins, Yellow Warbler and Chipmunk

We had a good day on Saturday - a little birding at the Industrial Park, grocery shopping and then home. Didn't spot  quite as many Warblers as I expected to, but that's the way birding goes. Yellow and Magnolia Warblers, Catbird, Red Eyed Vireo, lots of Song Sparrows and Tree Swallows. I puttered around inside, Larry worked in the garden, then I roamed the hood. Stopped for a visit with a few folks on my travels. Nice to catch up. Lots to get done today, then my long weekend is over. But first I think we'll take a run to Bear Brook this morning after breakfast, then it's home to get ready for the work week once again.
The Lupins along the roadside were beautiful Saturday afternoon.
A Yellow Warbler was tucked away in the Maple tree.
Jailbird Chipmunk trying to escape.

Day 157 - 10th June 2017 - American Redstart, Lupins and Pileated Woodpecker

Friday's rain should dampen things for a bit. Boy did it rain hard most of the day! Just before supper it cleared then in the evening a few showers again. This morning the sun is shining through and looks like it will be a great day! Made good use of my day - got lots done in the morning then Marg and I had our Thelma & Louise day! It was raining so hard we decided to stick to lunch in town, did a few errands and picked up our Chase the Ace tickets. No Cardinals at the Tim's drive thru -not that I blame them. Today Larry and I will head out to do some birding - although I have no idea where I want to go. Driving long distances and walking through uneven terrain has gotten really hard on his bad hip these days so I try not to over do it for him. Am sure I'll find somewhere to go. Then it's groceries.
An American Redstart pokes his head out from some maple leaves.
The Lupins are in bloom along the roadside.
Poor shot - Pileated Woodpecker flying over.

Day 156 - 9th June 2017 - Shed, Fisherman's Memorial and a Window

Day off and I'm up too early  - that figures but I've got lots of things planned to get done especially this morning before Margie and I go to lunch and do some errands. Have to get our Chase the Ace tickets for tomorrow night! Dawn has finally arrived with a fiery red sky and soften pink and purple reflecting in the lake. Rainfall warning for today - 40 to 50 mm - that will be a lot if we get it all. Another good day at work on Thursday, second season and I enjoy the job. That's half of the battle I'm sure of going every day. I like the idea of different things and people - never the same two days in a row.
This old shed will soon be covered in ivy.

Day 155 - 8th June 2017 Giant Allium, Violas and Song Sparrow

Today is my Friday! Although when you are open seven days a week you really don't have Fridays but it's my weekend off and a long one to boot! Yesterday was a beauty of a day - nice sunny weather, little wind but not nearly what we've been getting. Had a good day at work, we planted the vegetable garden  in the afternoon, a few visitors around. Evenings don't seem long enough to get everything done. The Robins always seem to be the first to arrive in the morning and the last to go to bed. Out in the grass they are pulling up worms and bugs. Since our property is between two lakes, it's often a fly zone - 6 Canada Geese went over last night as I was enjoying a few minutes on the deck. Hummingbirds are actively fighting over the feeder and a Hermit Thrush perched on the fence.
Beautiful Giant Allium in bloom at the Cooper's Inn Garden.

Day 154 - 7th June 2017 - Reflections, Song Sparrow, Steeple and Bleeding Hearts

The sun came up with splashes of red, so maybe a little storm weather in the future. Owls up the lake, Song Sparrows singing in the nearby trees and Robins fetching worms in the yard. Tuesday felt more like late March or October instead of June, brrrr it was cold and windy. Some drizzle but not much in the way of rain. Looks like we might have had a shower overnight. Larry built a fire in the furnace after supper, hoping that comes to an end soon. I put together a turkey casserole with cheesy biscuit topping for the suppers the next few nights. One of my favourite recipes for leftover turkey. I was tired by that time and opted for an early night, even though I had other things I should do. Off to work again today, beginning to get into the routine and enjoying the work.
Monday morning was lovely up the harbour - perfect reflecions.
We can often find a Song Sparrow hanging out on the Museum fences
The Steeple on Cox's Warehouse - a feature from the movie "Scarlet Letter" has remained. Most people forget it wasn't always there.
Bleeding Hearts - beautiful early summer flowers.
