Day 280 - 7th October 2014 - Cobwebs, Fall Colors and Red Berries

Up too early, so it will be a long and sluggish day. Stars are out and it's chilly. I think we probably will have a frost this morning, although the temperature is still up to +6.9. The fog may roll in and protect things for another morning. My list is growing of things to get done this week - hopefully today some can be crossed off.
The day that started out with thick fog turned out to be a beautiful sunny day. Heard a different bird in the trees on our property yesterday morning but for the life of me with the fog and it still being a tad bit dark I couldn't locate it.  Something to brush up on this winter - the voices/songs of birds. There are some great online sources and apps for this. A rather uneventful day at work - a few people in to research, did a quick tour of the Anglican Church Cemetery and accomplished a few other things. Exercise class last night, I'll be surprised if I don't hurt after all those jumping jacks but it was better than the burpees that some did. Sat on the deck for a bit before going to bed enjoying the moon and could hear an owl across the road somewhere, maybe down in the swamp. This time of year I hear them but never close enough to go in search.
A morning of cobwebs and fog.
 The was breaking through.
Still some lovely colors along the lake shore.

I love the blue that pops between the reds and golds.
The roads are beginning to be covered with spills and leaves.
Bright red berries.

Day 279 - 6th October 2014 - Hermit Thrush, Deer, Clyde River and a Chickadee

This is my last week at work. Going to be a busy one that's for sure to clean up things. I'm ready for a break, but the pay cheque is the pits. Working for a non-profit certainly has it's draw backs - seasonal work. Oh well some work is better than none and I've been doing this for a while now. It's Monday and exercise night as well - more fun I'm betting.
Sunday was another wet day but sort of cleared later in the afternoon. In the evening it was actually beautiful - blue skys and fluffy white clouds. I tried a walk in the morning but it was pretty miserable. I did manage snag a Hermit Thrush.  After being cooped up all day I bellowed for Larry to start the truck and we headed for the woods. A drive to Middle Clyde and a stop in Upper Clyde to visit with friends. It was good to catch up with them.  I missed the best of the fall colors on the Clyde River last week, many had fallen, but it was still beautiful and peaceful. My favourite river.
The Hermit Thrush took pity on me and posed - first one side...
 then the other.
As we were driving down the road there were a few deer in someone's yard enjoying an apple or two from an old tree.

I took a number of shots of the leaves and river along the way.
I think the ones of the leaves floating in the water and reflections are more interesting, now that the leaves are falling.

The river banks have nice color as well.

Irene's feeders were busy with Chickadees and Blue Jays.

Day 278 - 5th October 2014 - Great Blue Heron, Sanderlings, Savannah Sparrow

Sunday - slept better last night - rah! Sounds like today will be a repeat of Saturday. Rain this morning and clearing late this afternoon. Probably won't get too far again. It's been really windy this week - feels more like the old "March Winds" but at least it's not cold. No fire in the furnace yet, I think last year we were building one towards the end of September. Every day saves us for one on the spring end.
Weather was the pits on Saturday - heavy drizzle all day which wasn't great for photos. Lexi and I did roam a bit but mostly we puttered around the house. Not  a terribly exciting day that's for sure. So I went back and found some of my photos from last Sunday's adventure.
Seems there are Great Blue Heron's where ever you look these days.
The kelp and seaweed are bigger than the little Sanderlings that feed along the beach.

There goes a small flock of peeps - they landed further down.

Probably a Savannah Sparrow resting on a post.

Day 277 - 4th October 2014 - Foam, Leaves and Fungi

Seems I slept in this morning, but not really - I spent two hours roaming the house and reading in the middle of the night, then Lexi and I camped out on the sofa where I finally fell back to sleep. I'd forgotten that fall also brings on the worse of my insomnia.  Still dark but raining out now. Groceries this morning, then Larry's off to the Fall Hall to help out at the annual auction. I'm staying put and doing some housework and hoping for a break in the weather so I can haunt the hood.
Another work week has ended. Not a bad day overall, but didn't get the things done I should have but some things that needed to be done - progress. It stayed windy and overcast most of the day. Had a good walk in the morning but these days the hood is quiet.
Lots of foam along the shoreline.
 Fungi on an old tree.

The leaves are much prettier from a distance than close up.

I like the soft blurry colors behind this old dead tree.
Even this vine that grows along a building is turning.

Day 276 - 3rd October 2014 - Sunrise, Fall Leave and a Hermit Thrush

Friday has arrived and is going to be followed by a wet weekend. Doesn't sound like much of a weekend for birding. Maybe we will luck in and be able to go between showers. Larry has the annual fall fling and auction at our Fire hall on Saturday so that pretty well takes care of the day. I'll get some work done at home.
Another beautiful fall day, but windy as it has been all week. It's been a quiet week at work, people are winding down - still a few tourist and researchers around but not many. Good opportunity for me to catch up on things.  Went to a Tourism meeting in the afternoon - interesting. Exercise class in the evening - another good workout, need to keep it at it.
Now this was the kind of morning I wanted on Wednesday when I was off.
Soft gold sunlight over the lake.
Lots of ducks in the cove - mostly Mallards.
I think the leaves get brighter each day.
A Song Sparrow was foraging in the grass in a neighbour's yard.
 More golden colors.
Not a great shot - Hermit Thrush among the branches.

Enjoy your day!

Day 275 - 2nd October 2014 - Country Roads, Canoes, Leaves and Daisies

Thursday - suppose to be a fine day, rain forecast for the weekend - that really sucks. Work today, am anxious to see what the girls have done. They were in yesterday, put the pictures back up on the wall and did some "re-organizing". They've done such a great job cleaning up - sometimes a change is as good as a rest. For me having a fresh looking work space really helps.
Got out for my walk in the morning, didn't stay as long as I normally do. The weather was overcast and rather dark not great for photos. Not a lot of birds around yesterday - a few Chickadees, Yellow-Rumped Warblers and I saw the Blackpoll Warbler. Had no internet most of the day, so I took the opportunity to clean up the computer some as well as the standard "light" housework and laundry. Will be kind of glad to get to the fall cleaning and purging.
What could be nicer than a Nova Scotia road lined with bright leaves.
A blue canoe adds another shade along the lake.
 Lots of red leaves.
Another canoe nestled along the shore.
Still a few Daisies in my yard.
 And a Glad in bloom.
 Gold leaves and foam.
The red leaves are my favourite.
The ferns are changing as well.

Enjoy your day!

Day 274- 1st October 2014 - A Bear and Fall Leaves

Welcome October -  you bring shorter days but still some nice weather. The Blue Jays are arriving more often in the yard these days, scowling at the empty feeders. Soon I'll start filling them up again. Drizzle and foggy this morning but it's suppose to clear. I'm really hoping to get out in the hood for a good roam, see what's still around and catch the fall foliage.  Have to find some time to do a little housework.
Not a bad day at work - cleared one research project off my desk, did up the month end - posted and balanced, so I might be ahead of that game. Remained overcast and cloudy all day. Could feel a little soreness in spots; too much sitting after Monday nights exercise class.
This must be the bear that is rumoured to be around the hood.
Too bad Tuesday morning wasn't a bit brighter.
It was foggy and overcast, poor light for photos.
It's amazing what a difference a day or two makes to the colors.

I did spy a few spots that I'd like to try for photos, if there is a bit of sunshine today.
