Day 154 - 7th June 2017 - Reflections, Song Sparrow, Steeple and Bleeding Hearts

The sun came up with splashes of red, so maybe a little storm weather in the future. Owls up the lake, Song Sparrows singing in the nearby trees and Robins fetching worms in the yard. Tuesday felt more like late March or October instead of June, brrrr it was cold and windy. Some drizzle but not much in the way of rain. Looks like we might have had a shower overnight. Larry built a fire in the furnace after supper, hoping that comes to an end soon. I put together a turkey casserole with cheesy biscuit topping for the suppers the next few nights. One of my favourite recipes for leftover turkey. I was tired by that time and opted for an early night, even though I had other things I should do. Off to work again today, beginning to get into the routine and enjoying the work.
Monday morning was lovely up the harbour - perfect reflecions.
We can often find a Song Sparrow hanging out on the Museum fences
The Steeple on Cox's Warehouse - a feature from the movie "Scarlet Letter" has remained. Most people forget it wasn't always there.
Bleeding Hearts - beautiful early summer flowers.

Day 153 - 6th June 2017 - Sailboat, Flower Basket and Signage

Not such a  nice morning out there - little overcast. Suppose to get some showers today, well we can probably use a little rain. Doesn't take long for the lake to drop and I don't want to have another dry summer like last year. Good day at work yesterday.  Since I had extra time in town early, I roamed the waterfront, enjoying the peace and quiet. Spied a few birds - Cedar Waxwings, Song Sparrows, Red Eyed Vireos. Cormorants were skipping across the water, Gulls were hanging out.
Monday was a beautiful calm morning on the Harbour.
This house always has lovely baskets and flowers

There is new signage direction in Town - looks great. You can see the Dory Shop in the background - one of our great Museums.

Day 152 - 5th June 2017 - Male and Female American Redstart and Yellow Warbler

Another beautiful day! Good day at work - a little slow but to be expected on weekends this time of year, it will soon pick up. Trip down to the Industrial Park was rewarding before hand. Saw Redstarts, Yellow Warblers, Red Eyed Vireos, Song Sparrows, Catbird and Cedar Waxwings. I'm sure there were more but I only had about 1/2 hour before I had to head back out again. Larry cooked a turkey while I was gone so that should do (or some variations of it) for suppers this week. Got out for a little walk after supper, stopped for a quick tea and visit with Lois to catch up on the weekly news. Going to be doing my birding in town for the next few weeks. Have to travel with Larry as my regular ride Nancy is away. Guess I'll have to do the hood in the evenings.
Male American Redstart - am seeing a few of these around.

Female American Redstart.

Yellow Warbler, singing away!

Day 151 - 4th June 2017 - Azalea, Maple Seeds and Song Sparrow

Listening to the Loons, Owls and Song Sparrows this morning on the deck. Looks like another fine day on it's way, sun is rolling out-twinkling through the trees, my favourite time of the day. Might take a run to the Industrial Park before work this morning and see if there are any Warblers around. It's usually a good area, quick and easy place to spot some actions. Good day at work on Saturday, although quiet all afternoon but we enjoyed the sounds of a musical group playing in the afternoon at the new Guild Hall.
Azalea in bloom - beautiful flowers.

Seeds are all out on the Maple trees.
A Song Sparrow tucked among the branches.

Day 150 - 3rd June 2017 - Deer, Hairy Woodpecker and Palm Warbler

Great day off on Friday, beautiful weather - sunny with a little breeze. Buzzed around got some housework done, laundry etc. Roamed the hood a couple of times and even found a few minutes to enjoy the back deck. Friday night club last evening - always makes for fun and laughter. Back to work this morning - long stretch this time but I've got 3 days off in a row at the end which will be nice. Might just get a little birding in somewhere. Town Wide Yard Sale today as well as more Lobster Festival activities. Hopefully it will be busy!
One of three deer that almost ran me over on my morning walk!

Looks like this might be a Hairy Woodpecker's nest - I'll keep my distance - watching from afar.

Day 149 - 2nd June 2017 - Flag, Cedar Waxwings and Song Sparrow

Day off, but lots to do. Seems I'm a bit slow getting into the work routine again, but I'm glad to have the day to recoup, get a few things done around here and figure out what the next week is going to bring. I'm sure after that I'll be back in the swing of being gone all day and not having to spend all evening getting ready for the next day. Meals are always my big issue - I hate having to come home to cook supper and eating late. This time of year I want a little time to enjoy the outside after supper or just putter around. A little foggy this morning but already the birds are singing around the yard including the Catbird with his repertoire of crazy sounds. We had a good first day opening Thursday, with a few visitors through. Nice to see Dock Street come to life again.
The flag in the Museum Complex, waves gently in the wind as the fog lifted over the harbour.
Found Cedar Waxwings in the yard as I left and in the trees near the museum.
There are a number of Song Sparrows that flit back and forth around Dock St. and the side streets leading down to it.

Day 148- 1st June 2017-Rhododendron, Red Eyed Vireo and Lilacs

Good Morning rainy June! I'm up too early - 4 am, going to be a very long day. Looks almost like the sky may clear, still a few dark clouds though. So today all the museums open - we've had a few visitors around the last few days as we completed the set ups, hopefully that's a sign of a good busy summer. Birding in town is turning out to be interesting - seeing a few around, along with beautiful flowers in gardens. No I don't normally creep around strangers yards, only people I know. Had a good day Wednesday, finished setting up, got some research prepared for a couple of researchers next week and we finished off the day with a potluck supper.

Rhododendron blooms are lovely - big and full.
This Red Eyed Vireo was hanging out in a peach tree of a friend's yard.
Her White Lilacs are in full bloom now too.
