Day 123 - 7th May 2017 - Great Blue Heron, Hairy Woodpecker and Hyacinths

Raining hard this morning, suppose to clear later today. Saturday it didn't rain till evening, but the day hung in overcast skies and you though any time it would begin. Probably should have gone to Cape Sable Island but we'll try for today. Hopefully the Sandhill Crane will still be around. Did that grocery thing yesterday, picked up bird seed (they are eating me out of house and home) then did a little more cleaning. Larry spent another hour or two in the wood pile. The hood was quiet, Saturday but then I was out around lunch time and it was blowing hard. The girls and I decided we'd take a chance on Chase the Ace last night - the Ace lives so we lost a few dollars, but enjoyed the music although it was a long and late evening for me. As I'm putting this together the rain let up but then came back again.

 We watched this Great Blue Heron catching brunch at the Causeway.

 He seemed to be oblivious to the Black Duck, concentrating on his prey instead.

 Suet isn't always necessary.

Day 127 - 6th May 2017 - Tulips, Hermit Thrush and Northern Parula

It's a foggy, overcast morning out there. Mild though. Some rain overnight but lots more to come in the next few days. Grocery shopping this morning, then it's probably going to be a good putter around the house kind of day. We are going to try Chase the Ace tonight. Friday was a nice day, didn't rain til we got home from Friday Night Club. No cleaning was done but I roamed the hood for a couple hours in the morning. Several pairs of Hermit Thrushes were around, as well as Palm Warblers and Yellow Rumped. Several male Yellow Rumped were still chasing around trying to impress a female, that's been going on for several days now. Most of the time she seems to be sitting on a limb shaking her head at them. Lunch with Margie and then Friday Night Club - always good for laughter.

Day 126 - 5th May 2017 - Yellow Rumped Warbler, Rose Breasted Grosbeak and Ducklings

Thursday was a beautiful day, got lots done, roamed the hood a couple of times. Lots of Yellow Rumped Warblers and Palm Warblers around. Did some more Spring cleaning and worked out in the yard after lunch. Larry got the lawn mowed for the first time after supper. Everyone has been seeing Rose Breasted Grosbeaks this week, we had one at the feeder yesterday afternoon - not the gorgeous male but the female. She's still pretty cool and I was happy to see her. Well it's Friday, so town/lunch day with Margie. Will try to get a few things done here first but I just might end up roaming the hood for a good portion of the morning depending on how bad the blackflies are and what I find. Going to rain all weekend so might as well take advantage of the good weather now.

Day 125 - 4th May 2017 - Yellow Rumped Warbler, Lupins and the Lake

Looks like a nice day in the making. Sunrise is getting earlier these days and sunset is later. Just before it got dark last evening I sat on the deck, I could hear the Hermit Thrush singing somewhere near the edge of the yard, this morning he's back out along with a Song Sparrow. Love the music of the woods. Took a walk after supper - saw Swamp Sparrows, Palm Warblers and Yellow Rumped Warblers. Should soon begin seeing some of the other Warblers. Got done at Outpatients yesterday - little over 3 hours and I now am good for another year, except to run in for some blood work (standard stuff) next week. I guess today will be roaming the hood and back to the spring cleaning - life is good.

Day 124 - 3rd May 2017 - Swamp Sparrow, Canada Goose and Purple Finch

Foggy out there this morning. Suppose to lift and clear, maybe some more showers this evening. Got the upstairs tackled yesterday, did a quick jaunt around the hood before the rain started again. A big pot of Chili simmered on the stove and I did some biscuits to go with it for supper. It was one of those days when it was colder in the house than outside, after lunch I gave in and built a fire.  Trivia last night - not one of our stellar nights for sure! HA!HA! I don't think we could do any worse. I'm heading into town this morning - going to take my Kobo and sit at Out Patients so I can get my meds refilled. The joys of having no Doctor once again. Guessing it's going to be a long wait.

Day 123 - 2nd May 2017 - Raindrops, Cattail and Sparrow

There's a very vocal Owl right across the road this morning. If only I could find them during the day! More rain today but I don't mind a few days- it will keep me inside to get some work done. Started the spring cleaning yesterday, hopefully by the end of the week I can get the bulk of that done. Now is the time to get things done, I'm back to work at the end of the month so want to wrap some projects and home jobs up before returning. Always better under pressure! Maybe I can get out around the hood this morning between rain showers and see if any new Warblers have shown up in the last few days.

Day 122 - 1st May 2017 -Lighthouse, Canada Goose and Greater Yellow Legs.

Here we are starting another month and looks like the first few days will be wet ones. Won't argue with that, a little rain is a good thing and also will keep me inside so I can begin some spring cleaning and work on some genealogy. We had a great weekend away visiting friends. Always love the trip to the Islands. Sunday we came down along the shore, stopped in Yarmouth to pick up some groceries and got home late afternoon. Didn't see a lot of exciting things along the way but it was a nice drive and we made a few stops.
