Day 189- 7th July 2016 - Roses, Bleeding Heart and a Boat

 We've had a bit of rain during the night - much needed and looks like more forecast for today and tomorrow. Well guess since I'm off that will force me to do some inside work which really needs to be done. I'll do some lunch box prep this morning, housework and maybe work on a new shift (chemise) for myself for work. If the weather breaks at all, Big B. and I will get out for a run.
Wednesday was a long day, got to town at 7:30 am - my early morning in with Larry. Had a hair appointment after work, picked up a couple things at Sobeys and home again by 7:30pm. I roamed Dock Street and some of the side lanes, checking out gardens and enjoying the peaceful time of day. Work was great - people in to visit and we churned butter in the afternoon. No adventures or excitement yesterday.

The Roses on Dock Street are blooming beautiful - some are so fragrant.

 And I found some Bleeding Hearts in someone's garden.












It's the season when boats are appearing - moored in the harbour waiting to be sailed.

Day 188 - 6th July 2016 - Red-Eyed Vireos and Hermit Thrush

 Well it was rather an adventurous day at times. Started off on my morning walk to catch my ride and ran into a baby Red-Eyed Vireo on the private road. Oh yes Mama was not interested in moving him only feeding him. Not sure if he was old enough to be out of the nest but I hope so. I figured he should be moved out of the road and off to the side - easier said than done. So eventually I got him off to a grassy patch and with that Mama decided to chase me down the road. Some birds are truly ungrateful! Good day at work. After supper I decided to go back and see if he was still around - no sign and all was quiet. Stopped and had tea with Lois and then went up the road with her to chase a bear off of someone's deck. Long story on that one - I'll just leave you with the highlights.. Oh yes, the older we get the crazier we are or maybe that's just what girls in the woods do! The bear was gone so we were somewhat deflated on that adventure. There is a young bear (last year's cub) who has been roaming the hood making a bit of a nuisance of himself. Once the berries ripen up he'll disappear....I hope.

Day 187 -5th July 2016 - Hermit Thrush, Patridgeberry and Blue Jay

Sun is coming up slowly this morning, maybe behind a little fog on the lake. Still a little dark to tell. Looks like it will be another nice day with warm temperatures. Rain forecast for later in the week but no amount. I've not seen the lake so low in a long time. Going to toss some ribs in the slow cooker before I go to work, hopefully they will be tasty when we get home for supper
A great day off - did a little housework - it was just too nice to spend much time inside. Got the 5th week done of my online course, roamed the hood, chased some birds and enjoyed a little time on the deck. Lots of Red-Eyed Vireos around, saw a few Black and White Warbler and Yellow Rumped on my travels too. Of course I also caught up with a few friends on the phone. Picked some swiss chard from the garden to go with supper. Nice that things are coming along and we can have some fresh veggies these days.

Day 186 - 4th July 2016 - Swamp Sparrow and Red-Eyed Vireo

Happy July 4th to our American friends. Day off  and I've slept in - unusual for me but must have needed that little extra time. Lots to do around here by the looks of things. Looks like a good day in the making, no point in being home if I can't get a little jaunt around the hood in, then I'll tackle some housework.
Great day on Sunday - did  up a batch of muffins and got out for my morning walk before heading to work. Had some tourists around, did some work in the garden, finished off some research, little cleaning in the museum and worked on my carding and spinning. Yup, kept me out of trouble. Larry only has a 1/2 row left of wood to put in the basement so that chore is almost done for the winter season, he mowed after supper while I cleared away the dishes.

Day 185 - 3rd July 2016 -- Chipmunk, Roses and Yellow Warbler

 A crisp morning, air is more refreshing and the humidity has lifted. Looks like a good day in the making. Working again today. Should make a batch of muffins for Larry's lunches this week before I go. Might do a little work in the gardens at the museum this morning before it gets too hot. It's nice to be able to work outside.
Well Saturday was kind of yucky - humid, drizzle but no real rain other than some we got early in the morning. A quiet day at work. On an up note, the evening turned out lovely. I sat on the deck for a while watching a pair of Red-Eyed Vireos dancing through the Willow Tree and listening to the Loons on the lake.

Day 184 - 2nd July 2016 - Yellow Warbler, American Redstart and Common Yellowthroat

Looks like we will get some much needed rain today - not a lot mind you but every little bit is a help these days.  Sky was really red when I first got up. I'm off to work again today. Think I'll go early enough to pick up a few groceries, it's better shopping first thing in the morning than after work on a Saturday.
A beautiful sunny day arrived for Canada Day. I was surprised that we were fairly busy at the museum. Tourist were mulling around the waterfront and stopped to visit. I did managed a few minutes of birding before work. We went down to the Industrial Park - lots of activity there - Catbirds, Yellow Warblers, Red-Eyed Vireos, Purple Finches, Goldfinches, American Redstart and Common Yellowthroats. I must remember to get down there again, it's a good spot to roam for an hour.

Day 183 - 1st July 2016 - Black & White Warbler, Chickadee and Northern Parula

Happy Canada Day!!! Great country that we live in, thankful to be here. I'm working today, but that's ok. Larry will have a chance to work in the woodpile, garden and do a few things he wants to get done. Works out good - when I do have a weekend off we can do something together (birding) as he'll be caught up on things he does. Right now we are way ahead of schedule in the wood for next winter. I'm expecting a rather quiet day at work, but maybe I'll be surprised. Foggy morning, but doesn't keep the birds from singing. Lots of celebrations going on - Lockeport and Clark's Harbour today!
Had a great day off Thursday. Got out for my walk, of course caught in a few rain showers but then it cleared. Puttered around the house a bit doing some of those lovely chores that don't get done on their own. Threw some chicken thighs in the slower cooker with some diced tomatoes and sauce and let it cook away. One nice thing about that rig - no heating up the kitchen. Cooked up some pasta to go with it and it was pretty tasty. Lois and I went swimming in the afternoon - boy did that feel good.
