Day 313 - 13th November 2017 - The Lake and Reflections

An Owl is hooting nearby this morning, the crescent moon is hanging in an old apple tree. I can see the sparkle of frost on the grass near the back deck. No wind, just a chill in the air.  Being Monday and the start of the work week means I'm up at 4am... thankfully it seems to improve as the days go by, but today I'll be tired and cranky by mid afternoon. Probably a good thing I'm working by myself. Another weekend has flown by and I've not accomplished a lot - did get some needle felting done last evening and went to a housewarming yesterday afternoon. Nice have Larry more mobile and able, now if he could only do my fall cleaning/purging done. But now I'm thinking of Christmas baking - time to start the list of some traditional and new things and get some ingredients.
It was a perfect morning for our walk
Not much color, just a few bushes but perfect morning for reflections in the lake.
And there he goes, running ahead of me.

Day 312 - 12th November 2017 - Red Winged Blackbird, Old Fences and a Blue Jay

The seasons have changed, summer is officially gone and we've jumped into late fall. I don't think winter is suppose to come til the 21st of December or somewhere around there. Beautiful morning out there, hard frost on the grass, the sun is coming up over the lake. The feeder birds - Blue Jays, Chickadees, Mourning Doves and Nuthatches are arriving for breakfast. I can hear a flock of Goldfinches high in a tree. They've not been here since last spring. We had a lazy start to Saturday and then the day seem to stay that way. We had intentions of doing some birding but ending up visiting and having lunch at Tim's. A little work at home in the afternoon, then the girls and I went to Trivia at the Curling Club last evening.
Female Red Winged Blackbird found her way to the yard. Usually they are spring and fall visitors.
 I love old fencing.
A Blue Jay gives me the stare down.

Day 311 - 11th November 2017 - Red Breasted Nuthatch, Grackle and Downy Woodpecker

Remembrance Day - A Day to remember all those brave men and women who served and sacrificed for our Country. So if you aren't going to a local service, please take a few minutes this morning to give thanks and remember.
We had a good day on Friday although I didn't really accomplish much considering I was off, but sometimes that's the way it goes. Since Larry was excited with having some freedom, we made a trip to town in the morning to do some errands and pick up groceries. It was good for him to get out and see a chance of scenery and some new faces. Margie and I had lunch in Clyde River - it was a Lobster Poutine day - yum- very tasty. With some help Larry got a hand rail on the basement stairs, so now he's free to put wood in the furnace. Last evening it was off to Friday Night Club full of laughter, friendly insults and cake to celebrate! It's cold this morning and feels like the weather forecast for a "chance of flurries" may happen.  No idea what's on the agenda but I should get a few things done around here.

Day 310 - 10th November 2017 - Morning Light, Grasses and Pileated Woodpecker

Thursday was a great day! Larry had a good check up - he's allowed to drive again and do a whole lot of things "as he feels up to them". So the hard work with exercises and walking is paying off for his recovery. Sometime over the weekend he'll get some help and install a handrail on the basement stairs and will be able to manage the furnace while I'm at work. That's a little thing that saves the neighbours from stopping in to do it during the day. We've been so lucky with family and friends who have really gone the extra mile in these last 6 weeks to help us out. One of the many reasons that small towns and communities are so good. Today's plan - we'll go grocery shopping this morning, then it's Thelma and Louise lunch for me. And Friday Night Club will be returning to Margie's. Now if the weather would co-operate I might even get out for some photos or a little birding over the weekend - who knows!

Day 309 - 9th November 2017 - Sunlight, White Breasted Nuthatch and Junco

Very quiet this morning - not a peep outside, sky is dark - not a star in the sky unless they are hiding behind clouds. Doesn't feel quite as cold either. Well, today is the day - Larry's 6 week check up with the Doctor in Kentville.  Mom is going to drive him.  Fingers crossed his progress is what it should be and she gives him the ok to drive again. That would make him very happy and give him a little more freedom. Short and sweet this morning, time for me to grab another quick cup of coffee, get the fire going, breakfast etc. so he can be ready to go!
A glimpse of the sun coming through the trees and fog
Lots of White Breasted Nuthatches in the woods and feeders now
Nice to see the Juncoes again too

Day 308 - 8th November 2017 - White Breasted Nuthatch, the Lake and a Grackle

Tuesday was a cooler day but the sun was nice and warmed you up.  And it's chilly this morning. The sun has started it's decline by the time I get home from work these days, have I mentioned I really dislike the time change!  We had a win at Trivia last night - lots of fun and laughter from our table with two new additions, Tammy and Darren. It's a fast two hours that's for sure.  Looking forward to work today, the Curator, Allison and I are heading to the attic storage space. A new adventure - yeah I know, doesn't take much to entertain me. It's my early day so need to get cracking.

White Breasted Nuthatch
Mostly browns and a few golds left now
I still have a couple of Grackles hanging out.

Day 307 - 7th November 2017 - Lake, Pine Tree and Squirrel

Brrr..... a chilly morning, not used to that after wearing shorts and flip flops less then a week ago. Who knows another day or two and it could be warm again.  Or maybe we just get ready for the changes of season, the mild fall has been lovely. Good day at work, the rain cleared in the morning, but a bit more fell overnight. Getting up too early left me with a headache most of the day so skipped exercise class last evening. Better this morning and not quite as early rising. Takes me a while to adjust to the time change. Trivia tonight, hopefully we have our smart caps on.
Not much color left - a few spots of red bushes and the Oak trees are holding a little gold/brown.
The Pine on the end reminds me of a Bonsai, looking lonely right now.
If they would only stay in the woods and out of my feeders they might just be cute.

Enjoy your day!
