Day 257 - 14th September 2015 - Cone Flower, Rose, Black & White Warbler and Junco

A rainy Monday morning to start off the work week. Suppose to clear later today. Hoping to have a productive week, get lots done at the office. I need to start cleaning things up as by mid-October I'm usually laid off for the season. I don't want stuff hanging on over the winter months.
The rain on Sunday kept me mostly inside, which was ok since I had cooking and photo editing to do. After lunch we took a drive to Middle Clyde to pick up blueberries - oh they look so good - will be lovely in muffins and other stuff this winter.  Also got a first hand view of Jackson's innovative hydroponic strawberry set up. Imagine having fresh strawberries up til the end of the October grown in Nova Scotia! If you are in the market for great blueberries and strawberries this is the place to go. Stopped at Brier Hill to visit for a few minutes on our way home. I'm not good at visiting when I see a few birds fly by the window. Good thing, Larry is chatty and Irene knows me well!

Cone Flower.

Well the jury is still out on this little guy - Dark -eyed Junco, but could be a light Slate or Oregon subspecies. It's also been suggested a hybrid - Dark Eyed Junco x White Throated Sparrow.
I should have paid more attention to him!
Chickadee
Dark-Eyed Junco (Slate).
Rose dipped in rain drops.

Day 256 - 13th September 2015 - Yellow Legs, Gulls and a Gate

I'm late, I'm late! Good excuse I had a late evening and forced myself to stay in bed til 6:3 am - wohoo! No great plans for today, although we will make a trip later to Middle Clyde to pick up our winter supply of blueberries from Lore's Farm. This morning maybe a jaunt through the hood and have to do muffins for the lunch box.
Had a good day Saturday although I wasn't feeling 100%, my head was playing up (does't sound good I know). We decided to do some errands in Barrington, but took the long route, through Port Clyde, Reynoldscroft, side trip to Baccaro. Pretty quiet in most places. A few shorebirds, Gulls, Cormorants but nothing of an exciting nature. I'm grateful for what I see.  We took a quick trip out to Cape Island - the Guzzle and Daniel's Head, lunch at West Head Take Out and then Barrington for shopping. I took the opportunity when we got home to have a little rest since I knew I'd have a late night at the Shelburne Film Festival - it was great, if you missed it catch the Matinee today.
 Yellow Legs I think.
Gulls at Baccaro, watching the surf.
Gate at the Sheep farm at the Guzzle.
Gulls, Gulls and lots of Gulls!

Day 255 - 12th September 2015 - Red-Eyed Vireo, Magnolia Warbler, Ducks and the Flag

Think we'll head out to Cape Sable Island this morning, do a little birding then some shopping in Barrington. Perhaps something interesting will be out that way. Need to be home early to get some housework done this afternoon and have a little rest. I'm off to the film festival at the Osprey Arts Centre this evening to do photos. Going to be a later evening than I'm used to but I'm looking forward to it.
The rain held off Friday, til we were on our way home from work.Glad it was the end of the week although it was a good day. Spied a few birds on my morning walk but nothing exciting. I won't complain, even those will be gone before too long to spend somewhere nice and warm for the winter months.
Red Eyed Vireo.
The Magnolia Warbler giving me his usual good side!
The ducks were at Myrna's waiting for breakfast to be served.  The young ones are now as big as their parents.
The Canadian Flag blows gently in the breeze next to the lake.

Day 254 - 11th September 2015 - Wildflowers, Lily Pads and a Mallard

Up too early, this sucks but will carry on. No use complaining about it. It's Friday so that's a good thing. Lots I'd like to get done today, fingers crossed it goes smoothly and I accomplish all I set out to. Weekend around the corner, should be able to get birding in at least one day.
Well yesterday's rain really didn't amount to anything - don't even think  it made a puddle but last nights sure did. Glad to see it and my favourite kind - night rain! A few people in researching, some queries cleared up, but I never really seem to get ahead of the game. First night back to exercise class - made it though, a couple of spasms of pain but not too bad overall. I'm sure I'll hurt after missing so much time.
Wildflowers along my morning walk route.

Berries are ripening, think Donna must be right - Wild Raisin.
Lily pads are breaking up and not as pretty as they were a few months ago.

This female Mallard was hanging out on Dock Street, the only bird I saw all morning.

Day 253- 10th September 2015 - Palm Warbler, Goldfinches, Cape Light and Black & White Warbler

No stars this morning, a little rain has appeared overnight. Maybe more for today and the next few. The lake is very low, forest fire index high, so it would be welcomed. Ideally rain at night is the best kind, but then we don't always get what we wish for. Work day, as usual lots to do.
Eventually the haze disappeared and the sun came out. A little humid in the afternoon but not too bad. Quiet morning on the lake, I did see a lone Ring-Neck Duck and a few warblers - Palm, Black & White, Northern Parula.  Puttered around the house, laundry, a little cleaning and cooking. Edited some photos, get a few more ready to print off for cards. Thinking about a Calendar so checked into costs etc. Tea with Lois on her deck - solved a few world problems as we often do.
Palm Warbler, see them nearly every day now.
Goldfinches.

Looking out at the Light on the Cape.

The Greater Yellow Legs has an odd feather sticking up.
Terrible shot, but he wasn't coming closer - Ring-neck Duck in the lake.

Black & White Warbler.

Day 252 - 9th September 2015 - Sunrise, Northern Parula, Black-Throated Green Warbler and Chickadee

No star out there this morning, must be a bit of cloud cover. Could hear an Owl, but he sounds far off this morning. Day off, lots to do - roam the hood, some cooking. Something for Larry's lunches and a casserole maybe for Thursday and Friday night. We have leftover turkey so lots of good choices. Big shout out for the Bestie's birthday.
Tuesday came out hot and humid. Good day at work, a few researchers in and a couple things done up. Quiet on my morning walk, just a few of the regulars. After supper we went back over to Upper Clyde so Larry could help Billy finish up the roof. I think the last foot of the cap he was doing in the dark, but when you get that far you have to finish it. A job well done.
Sunrises over the lake are beautiful these days.
 Love the golden colors.
 Northern Parula.
 Magnolia Warbler, hiding.
Black-Throated Green Warbler - been a week or more since I've seen one of these on my walk.
And of course the Chickadee.

Enjoy your day!

Day 251 - 8th September 2015 - Common Yellow-Throated Warbler, Northern Parula, Palm Warbler and Goldfinch

Three days off and I choose this morning to sleep in - go figure. It's another beautiful morning, stars and moon are high in the sky, shining brightly. Back to work this morning, then tomorrow is my day off again. Daylight is slower coming these days and night falls earlier, sure signs of a change in the season. The early sunrises are what I really miss about summer leaving. Fall is my favourite time of year otherwise.
Fabulous long weekend, back to work today. How many more weeks before the next one.
Didn't go anywhere Monday, puttered around and caught up on a minimum amount of house work and edited a bunch of photos I was behind on. All good stuff but no major strain on the brain. Maybe I did a little more than I should have yesterday, today I didn't feel quite so energetic. It was quiet around the hood, very few birds wanted to come out.
Common Yellow-throated Warbler.

Northern Parula
Palm Warbler
Goldfinch, reaping the benefits of the Sunflower seeds he planted earlier this spring.
Soon I'll have to start filling the feeders again. By for now he can harvest his own.
