Day 234 - 22nd August 2015 - Pitcher Plants, Red-eyed Vireo, Hermit Thrush and Chickadee

So we've had a little rain during the night, not much so far. I wish it could rain at night and cleared during the day. I don't like a wet weekend. Going to have to do some grocery shopping today and a bit of housework, other than that I have no idea. We'll see how the weather is and how I feel.
Once again I've been struck with a case of the shingles. Nasty stuff, but I think this time we've got it early enough to keep it from getting as bad as the last time. 2nd time round I'm smarter! Ha!Ha! Oh well there are many worse off than me and hopefully this will clear quickly and I can avoid a trip to the eye specialist. Might slow down my photography for a few days, but they are calling for rain.  Larry headed for Yarmouth after work to pick up the utility trailer he wanted at Canadian Tire, I went home. It was so hot I called Lois after supper to go swimming. The water was beautiful and did the trick. After the heat in the office all day it made me feel so much better.

Day 233 - 21st August 2015 - Grandmother's Journal, Common Yellowthroat, Northern Parula and Chickadee

Friday morning, I'm up way too early ( 4am), so it's going to be a very long day. The rain has begun, the deck is wet but not much. Thundershowers forecast for today and tomorrow.
More heat and humidity. No complains about heat but really dislike the humidity. My office is just nasty with this kind of weather. I did convince a few birds to come out on my walk, but nothing new or unusual. However, I'm grateful to see those that do show up. This time of year, I know it won't be long and the Warblers will be moving. Soon enough we'll be watching the Feeder birds once again.
Grandmother's Journal:
20 August 1976 - Beautiful day at home today. Had a great day, Fran and family at her house, this afternoon Gertrude and I walked over. Beautiful fall day. Cold over night. Made Mustard Pickles this morning. Bettie bought Mike up to stay.
21 August 1976: Real hot. Beautiful day. Bob sprayed trees. I did a bit of cooking. Bettie and Bobbie up for Mike. Gertrude and I played crib. House warm tonight.
22 August 1976: A beautiful hot day. Hot to set records. We had a real nice day. Glad not to have to cook. Chalis and Jack, Fran, Bob & I over to Reg and Gertrude's for the day. Such a spread of goodies. Lunch and dinner, got home at 10:30 at night. Jimmie back to Saskatchewan today. Took a while to cool down. Need rain.
First I thought the bee might have been caught in the web, but it appears he's enjoying an early morning breakfast.

Common Yellowthroat.
They were all wet from the foggy leaves that would shake and drip on them.
Northern Parula.
A very wet Chickadee, but he was finding breakfast in the webs.

Day 232 - 20th August 2015 - Red-Eyed Vireo, Magnolia Warbler, Ovenbird and Black & White Warbler

More fog this morning - I know we are all getting tired of that old song. The fog monster remains hanging over the province. Rain coming in the next few days - that sucks too, since I need to get out and do some photos for a project. The weather can be fickle so maybe by Sunday it will be fine again. Work day - hoping to get at least one research request finished off and a few other things done.
It was a great day at home. Decided since it was so foggy and it was going to be hot again I would get a few things done around the house right away and then head out for my birding walk. Whipped up a casserole for the next couple of nights, got laundry underway and some other household chores.  The birds are definitely lazy around here, no one popped out til around 8:30 am. Lots of regular Warblers - Black & White, Magnolia, Palm, Northern Parula, Red-Eyed Vireos, Ovenbird, Black Throated Blue Warblers, Hermit Thrush, Song Sparrows and Swamp Sparrow and of course Chickadees.  Lois and I hit the lake in the afternoon for a swim - water is lovely and warm, tea on the deck then it was time to cook supper.

Day 231 - 19th August 2015 - Lilies, Old Chair, Whirligig and Dock Street

Wednesday - my day off. Rah! Think I'll buzz around early and get things done before the fog burns off and it gets hot again. Maybe I'll spy something new on my walk this morning as well. Monday was pretty dull. There must be some Warblers wanting their picture taken. I think an afternoon swim will be on the agenda too.
I strolled along the foggy waterfront yesterday morning. Not quite as nice as the hood but lovely and mostly peaceful just the same. Not so busy with people at the office, a few but mostly I had a chance to get a few things done. Unfortunately the heat was terrible there - upstairs in a brick building doesn't equal coolness.  Got supper done and had an easy evening. Larry did up more beans for the freezer - we have over 30 bags done now. They will be good for winter.
These lilies were gorgeous. Love that bright orange color.
A place to sit and enjoy the view when the fog lifts.
Looking through the window at the Barrel Factory.
There are lots of different lilies along the waterfront. Everyone has some planted.
The garden at the Cooper's Inn is lovely - one of the features I like the best.
Not a lot of wind but enough to make his oars go round.
A great feature is the hanging baskets on the lamp posts. Even on a foggy morning they add a little punch of color.

Enjoy your day!

Day 230 - 18th August 2015 - Queen Anne's Lace, Sail Boat and Red Berries.

Promises of another warm day once the fog moves out again. Will have to get my morning walking done in town. I'm catching a ride with Larry this morning, so no strolling the hood. My summer student has finished so I'm back on my own again at the office. Will take a day or two to remember that there's not another person.
Well it wasn't the worse Monday nor the best, but survived and onto another day. It was foggy on my walk, can't believe I didn't see one bird. I phished, called and did everything but stand on my head and still couldn't get one to come out! Of course I didn't hear any either. Missed exercise class last night, we were late getting supper and it was hot so I passed. Came home after work to find a male Hummingbird at the feeder, haven't seen a male since last Thursday. Assumed they had all gone and he may just be a stray passing through.  It's that time of year.
Field of Queen Anne's Lace at Round Bay.
Red berries - makes me think of Fall; seasons are moving along.
Yellow Legs I think.

Once the fog lifted it was a nice morning for a sail.

Day 229 - 17th August 2015 - Yellow Warbler, Great Blue Heron and Belted King Fisher

There's another weekend gone. Back to Monday morning  and work. Oh to win the lottery! Looks like my morning walk will be another foggy one.  Lots to do today, get the week underway and hopefully to a good start. The weekend reduced my stress level so let's hope it stays that way! Positive thoughts.
Had a full day on Sunday. Took in the Ingomar Fire Hall breakfast then hit the Round Bay beach - full of fog. So nothing terribly interesting there. Traveled a couple of side roads, a few Warblers and Chickadees. Side trip to Blanche yielded Willets, Common Terns, Great Blue Herons and a couple more Warblers. We gradually made our way home. Larry hit the woodpile, I started doing a few things around the house. We had a surprise visit from old friends we haven't seen in a long time, it was so good to catch up with them. And I realized it's been too long since we've seen them and life is very short so we better not leave it that long again.

Red-eyed Vireo.
Great Blue Heron - he was searching for breakfast.
I think this is a Common Wood Nymph Butterfly.

Belted King Fisher.
Common Yellowthroat - say a number of these.

Day 228 - 16th August 2015 - Deer, Palm Warbler and a Sunset

Early Sunday morning. Think we'll head off to Ingomar Fire Hall breakfast today, maybe do a little birding, etc along the way. Should be a good time of the day to hit Round Bay and Roseway Beaches. Never know where we will end up. Making no great plans. Sooner or later we'll get back home and then it will be time to get ready for the work week ahead.
Had a foggy walk  yesterday morning - getting tired of that morning fog! Once again not a lot moving or if it was you couldn't see it. Did my community duty working at the hall after that. We didn't have to go to Yarmouth but it was really hot by then so decided we'd run in town do the groceries and go somewhere after supper. Took a drive to Upper Clyde, a few birds but mostly deer. Three almost walked up to us while I took photos.

He was lovely with his little velvet
spikes.

 Palm Warbler.
Water was moving fast at Cubscootch - I still didn't get the angle for the shot I wanted.
The owner of this bird house says the Swallows love it - no way for squirrels to get in etc.
As we headed home the sun was beginning to set.

Enjoy your day!
