Day 299 - 25th October 2013 - Ducks, Geese, Leaves and Morning Light

Friday has rolled around again folks for all those off to work this morning the weekend is almost upon us. Stars are out the sky is clear but it's cool out there; temperature is +3.6. First day of deer hunting season - guess I better dig out my orange vest - means Lexi and I won't stray too far from the main drag and path. The first few days are the craziest!  Giving a little rain for the weekend. No great plans, so we'll see what the days bring us or where they take us. Today I'll start on the downstairs, maybe a day  in the library - dusting and cleaning books would be fun.
Thursday was a much calmer day. Nice to be home in the woods. Roamed the hood some, but it's pretty quiet these days, haven't even seen the Hermit Thrush for several days. Guess it's time for everyone to fly south or at least to warmer areas. Lots of wind though, leaves and pine spills blowing around. Well I finished the big clean upstairs - 5 rooms done. Still too soon to count down yet. Exercise class last night - wish I was coordinated. Just can't seem to get those dance steps!
Grandmother's Journal:
25th October 1974: To town to shop and wash. Fine day, snow going. Road a bit clearer. Kim came back when we came home with us for weekend. Overcast late in the day.
26th October 1974: Home all day. Didn't do much. Kim and I in house all day. Lovely day. Rained overnight. Most of the snow gone now. Wind cold but quite warm and lovely in late day. Bobbie and Mike up during the day. Bear Pointers up to the River. Kim and I played crib. Time change tonight. [I think we now have another week before it changes]
27th October 1974: Very big hail stones. Windy. Turned out fine. Very windy and cold. Bobbie and Bettie and kids here all afternoon. Took Kim home. Bettie and Ivan Spears dropped in tonight. Had a short visit. Enjoyed having them.
 In for a landing.
Mallard - they can sure put the brakes on fast.
Very serene as the sun was coming through.
A little Song Sparrow hides from me.
The children are back - preening so they can enjoy the sunshine on the rock.

Lots of leaves on the road now.

Enjoy your day!

Day 298 - 24th October 2013 - Clouds, Clouds and Buoys

Expected to wake up to rain showers this morning, but nothing - they say it's suppose to clear later. Larry said the pavement was wet when he took Lexi out so maybe we got all we are going to have. I can live with rain at night. Temperature is +6.5, dark and dreary looking out. No stars. Will finish up the upstairs today and maybe start downstairs. Exercise class tonight - I truly could have used it last night - it's helps to work any frustration out that you may have.
Wednesday was a very rough day, so glad to get home at supper time. Think maybe I won't come out of the woods until next May. I deleted an email distribution list in the morning and of course it was no where to be found. So I had to reconstruct it. That didn't set a good tone for me.I guess on the brighter side I cleaned it out as well. We must always have a bright side to things. My wonderful cooking friend recapped pie crusts yesterday on his blog, I may just have to try it one more time but not for a few weeks.
Some very colorful buoys hanging from a building.
It was a lovely morning on the harbour.
 So calm - like glass.
 Fabulous clouds in the sky...
 and the harbour.
Through the sky everywhere there were clouds.

Enjoy your day!

Day 297 - 23rd October 2013 - Fog, Pink skies, Robin and the Geese

Had a better night, except it was really warm, temperature is +9.4. Suppose to be another fine day. Not sure what today will bring, hopefully all good things. Have a few errands to run, etc. Nothing terribly exciting but will be nice to catch up with a few people.
Tuesday was not a great day in the kitchen for me. Really unusual, since normally I'm a pretty good baker.  I had decided on the cursed pie crust and that's where the trouble started. My whoppie pies did not turn out either. I was rather frustrated with the whole morning. I've decided from now on I'm buying the pre-made frozen pie crusts; there are some things in life that aren't meant to be and that's one for me. Did a bit more cleaning but didn't quite get all I wanted done, Lexi and I opted for a nap in the afternoon on the sofa. I could feel that early morning headache coming on and thought that might avert it. Felt better when I woke up. Larry of course said there was nothing wrong with the pie and ate some after supper with relish! You know after almost 30 years he knows the right things to say and do. Had some showers late in the afternoon, early evening but then it cleared.

A glow of pink through the very foggy morning.
Through the trees the sun began.

A bright orb reflecting in the lake.

Another morning Robin.
The babies returned yesterday just before lunch.
They aren't quite as friendly as their parents and that's a good thing - too many hunters around these days.

Enjoy your day!

Day 296 - 22nd October 2013 - Robins, Moon, Leaves and Mist

Stars are out, I'm up too early, a restless night - but I'm not sure why. Dreams, dreams and more dreams. I think I'm more tired from the activity in my head during the night than from working yesterday. Temperature is +3.5. Today I'm going to put to use some of that pumpkin we slaved over on Sunday. Pumpkin whoopie pies and a pumpkin pie. Now I haven't quite forgotten  my last experience with making pie crust (last February) so it should be an interesting morning. I wish my cooking friend, Darrell lived closer to walk me through this. It's a mental block, I'm sure - I know what I'm doing wrong I just can't seem to fix it! Hoping to finish purging and cleaning upstairs today, just the bathroom and hallway to do. Still too many rooms left to start counting down.
Yesterday was a day of lost and found. First thing I couldn't find my Christmas Baking book - it has a list of all my recipes, ingredients, etc. I was in a bit of a panic to say the least, but it did turn up. Later I lost some paperwork, tore another room apart and found it. Maybe I'm just losing my mind, you can never tell. Got our bedroom cleaned, moved some furniture around and started on the bathroom - more bags of garbage!  The hood has been very quiet lately, nothing exciting in the bird world these days. A very hard workout at exercise class last night.
One of the many Robins still hanging around.
The shadow of the moon was still out around 8:30am
Reds and Golds.
Just a little bit of mist still along the edges.
I'm taking advantage of the colors, soon they will be gone.
Hiding from me - the Hermit Thrush.
The higher trees are bare.

Enjoy your day!

Day 295 - 21st October 2013 - Leaves, Leaves and Geese

Monday morning, I slept in - what a great feeling. Temperature is +4.3, the moon and the stars are all out. Larry's off to work early and I didn't even hear him, Lexi thinks it's too soon to get up and she's gone back to bed.  Going to be  a sunny day. I should get back to the purging and cleaning but they are giving showers for the next few days so I might take advantage of the weather and spend some time outside. Exercise class tonight, Cindy is back so I guess we will be hurting.
Well Sunday wasn't too bad of a day. Rained a bit but not a lot and cleared off fairly  early in the afternoon. I spent most of the day cleaning through my photographs on the computer, added over 10 GB of memory so you know I cleared quite a few. Oh there was the laundry but really the washer and dryer do most of the work, not like I'm using a scrub board. Got two big pumpkins cooked up, mashed and strained. Remind me next year to read this post when I think or Larry suggests cooking up pumpkin is a good idea! Larry got beets done up too for the freezer. After supper he mowed the lawn, hopefully for the last time this season. I did get out for a jaunt around the hood, but it was pretty quiet. All I saw were leaves and pine spills blowing around. Must have picked up a hornet on my jacket and brought it in the house. I went to brush something off my collar and I was stung! What a friggin' nasty thing that was and it hurt for a long time.
Not a lot of new things in the hood to take photos of but there is still some color left.
A few weeds left on the side of the road.
The path through the woods is covered now.

 Blue skies were coming through.
Leaves on the lake.

This is one of my favourite views in the morning when the sun is lighting it.
The Canada Geese feeding on Cape Sable Island on Saturday.

Enjoy your day!

Day 294 - 20th October 2013 - Colors, Lighthouse, Junco, Hermit Thrush and Cat Tails

The moon is drifting in and out behind the cloud cover this morning, no stars in sight. Temperature is +10.6 and we are suppose to have showers for the best part of the day. The rain will keep us in most of the day and there is still pumpkin and tomatoes to cook up along with other vegetables to put down. Also have some zucchini that could be shredded. So maybe a day in the kitchen.
Another sunny and warm fall day. A lot of the leaves have dropped but the one's still there are very pretty. Because it was nice, Lexi and I spent quite a bit of time outside. I did tackle the deep freezer - got most of it cleaned out, making a little more room for more tomato sauce, veggies, etc. There were some beans and fruit that had drifted to the bottom from 2010/2011. Since I'm in a good tossing mood, they went. So that was a job well done. Larry got home before supper so we jumped in the truck with camera and binoculars and took advantage of a few daylight hours. Headed to Port LaTour, Baccaro, Cape Sable Island then on to do grocery shopping in Barrington. Stopped at Thomson's in Clyde River for a quick bite to eat before heading home. Our date adventure was salvaged for another week. Didn't see a lot - a Sparrow Hawk (Larry identified with the binoculars) flying over head, some sparrows moving quickly through the brush, Canada Geese, Great Blue Heron and a few ducks. But we had a good few hours.
 Misty morning
A little sunlight hitting the trees.
It was very misty in this cove but the sun was coming through.
 Woodpecker having breakfast.

The island looks like it's floating.
 Trick picture.
My Hermit Thrush playing coy with me.

One of my favourite photos of today. Down at Baccaro light.
 Baccaro Light.
A very cute little Junco.

Day 293 - 19th October 2013 - Mushrooms, Fog and Max

Stars are out and it's quite bright this morning even though it's still dark. Maybe that doesn't' make any sense. Guess it will be a day of more cleaning, Larry's working so we won't be off on an adventure today. Lexi and I might just have one in the hood. Maybe if it doesn't rain too much or too long tomorrow we can buzz somewhere. Might just roam a few spots I've not really investigated thoroughly in the hood today. Never know what I might find.
Didn't get much walking in yesterday. One of those rainy, overcast days good for being inside and tackling the purging and cleaning - 2 rooms down, too many more to do. I just pace myself. I have discovered it's time to call it a day when I'm looking at things and thinking - oh yeah that's ok instead of tossing it. I even threw out a few pairs of shoes - well they were worn out and you just can't keep them for the memories! So kind of a boring day, but good for me. Lexi likes to supervise, she lays on the spare bed and rolls her eyes. Leftovers for supper and a wasted evening - unlike my grandmother I did no knitting, just watched tv and played on the laptop. Full moon last evening - the hunter's moon my neighbour tells me. It was shining bright in the sky.
Before the rain - the road is littered with leaves and pine spills.
This was a cool little mushroom - such a nice shade of chocolate.

 Another foggy day.
Max - he just kind of visits from neighbour to neighbour even though he has his own home.
The lake is covered in spills and leaves too.

Enjoy your day!
