Day 326 - 21st November 2012 - Wet Branches, Chickadee and Reflections

Wednesday has reared it's ugly head and I'm off to town today. Temperature is really mild this morning at +3.2. Well it won't be so bad, have lots to do and have some help coming too. Also, going to lunch with a friend so that should be a nice outing and I'm looking forward to it. I have a feeling the day will fly by. Have some errands to run while I'm in as well, one day during the week means a mad dash to give everything done, but I enjoy the winter break at home.
Well I earned a well deserved lazy evening in front of the television last evening. Worked hard at the kitchen all day, everything is done but cleaning out the fridge which I'll do on Friday, since that's usually when it's the emptiest. Decided to do a chicken casserole instead of soup for supper, it was sort of a mock chicken pot pie, but used egg noodles on the bottom and puff pastry on the top with chicken, veggies, left over dressing and a sauce. Not bad. I like dealing with leftovers, means I don't have to think too hard and we have enough for supper on Wednesday.

Thought I'd check and see what was going on in Grandmother's Journal this morning:
Tuesday 21st November 1972
Still overcast in morning. Looked like snow or rain. So far didn't get any. Late afternoon sun came out Mother and I walked over to Simmons to see if there was a partridge. Didn't even see a robin. Real nice but cold and quite windy. Bob & Bobbie looked traps, no beaver again today. Real cold tonight. Jays still coming to Sid's shelter. I'm still not feeling so hot. Arm aches off an on.
Wednesday 22nd November 1972
Bob's birthday. Lovely, sunny, very cold day. Bob & Bobbie still trying for one more beaver. Made a cake for Birthday. Mother and I walked to Simmon's, Lore's, Reg's. No partridge Good walk. Nuthatch still around

The chairs were enjoying a lovely view of the lake yesterday morning.
The tree branches were glimmering with color as the frost melted in the sun.
Reflections of trees in the lake.
Wasn't happy to see this bit of ice today, just a thin layer but....
And of course the friendly little Chickadee.
I just thought this was kind of cool. Taken on an angle, the trees look like of fuzzy and distorted in the lake.

Day 325 - 20th November 2012 - Lots of Clouds, A Chickadee and A Cat

A cool Tuesday morning, temperature is -2.6. Weather is forecast as sunny all week. More cleaning today - I think I'll tackle the kitchen today.  I'll make some homemade chicken soup with the leftover roast chicken in the fridge.  I love being able to get lots of miles out of one chicken! Also have to pay some bills, it's creeping up to the end of the month again. Should be a little quieter in front of the house today I hope. They were finished working on this section but were flagging from here yesterday, so all the big trucks were lined up in front of the house.
Well I managed to get the "Bowling Alley" cleaned yesterday - 40' x 10', with 8 windows. So curtains came down and got washed, windows were cleaned (inside) maybe I'll convince Larry to do the outside on the weekend and everything from top to bottom was cleaned and dusted. Cookies made in the afternoon and thank goodness there was leftover chicken for hot sandwiches and fries for supper as  I don't think I had energy to do much else. Well got my second wind and headed to exercise class after supper. I guess I'm getting used to it, not that I love it but am learning to like it a bit more - I just keep telling myself, you need this, you need this.
Lexi and I did manage to sneak out around the road work a couple of times for a walk and some photos.
Hardly a ripple on the lake today, sky was filled with clouds.
And the clouds were in the lake.
Umm...wonder what he's looking at?
Kitty is sitting at the base of the feeder!
Time to fly!
Time for another coffee, play my turn at scrabble and get started! Enjoy your day!

Day 324 - 19th November 2012 - Sunrises, Frost, Big Machines and Birds

Went to bed last night super early and slept forever, it was nice to have those extra hours, hopefully that doesn't mean I won't sleep the rest of the week. Temperature is nippy this morning at -2.6. Guess most mornings will be like that now. This month is racing by pretty quickly so I think I better get myself kick started into gear and finish the fall cleaning. By the first of December I'll want to start decorating the house inside and my baking. I still have shopping to do and so much more. The only thing I can visualize is a panic mode if I don't get moving. It's been nice to work at a slowish pace and take a little time off but it's not getting things done. Exercise class tonight and I'm hoping my foot is going to co-operate so I can go. It feels somewhat better.

Yesterday calmed down so to speak, the furnace fire got going and began warming the house up, Lexi and I caught the sun rising over the lake and Larry arrived shortly after 8am as I was eating cold pizza for breakfast. That's something I haven't done since my college days, and probably won't do it again for a while. They had a chilly night in to the camp and he was glad to get home to a warm house. Shortly after daylight I could hear the big trucks starting to move down the road, and as I expected most of the day they were in front of our house working on the road. Lexi was not a happy girl as she really dislikes the loud noises.
This is what we saw yesterday morning. I love the perfect reflections when the lake is perfectly calm.
It was so frosty!
The sun was shining on the frost that covered the roof over the back door.
So this is part of one of the big machines. From what I can gather it chews up pavement and spits it in to a big dump truck driving ahead, then there are two other machines that come behind doing something else. That's as technical as I can manage. All I know is that when they go by the house everything feels like it is shaking!
Decided to walk through the woods and check out something far prettier than machinery.
And I stopped at Lois' bird feeders to see what was there. Lots of birds flitting around including this Junco.
The Nuthatch found a seed.
The rest of the house is waking. Time to move on. Enjoy your day!

Day 323 - 18th November 2012 - A Day on Dock Street

Brrr... it's cold out there this morning, -3.8. Of course I had to bundle up and take Lexi out at 5:30am, and from what I can tell that was just a walk in the dark. I'll try her again as the sun is coming up and take my camera too. She's in a snit since Larry's not home. There is a reason I don't do the early morning and night walks apparently. Have built a fire, now if it catches I'll be happy, should be any minute now. All these extra duties cut into my writing time! The good news is I slept well. Not sure what today will bring, suppose to be nice so maybe a roam around or perhaps a short drive somewhere. Can never tell.
Yesterday was a long day, got home from the Bean Dock around 5:30pm. We had fun though and some giggles. Got home walked Lexi, built a fire, pj's on and a relaxing girls night in with just Lexi and I. Larry and Danny had gone into camp around lunch time for the night. Lexi of course spent quite a bit of time looking and wondering where Larry is.
The New Jersey Volunteers Regiment were doing some re-enacting yesterday at the Ross Thomson house. Here I found some  outside chatting.
This soldier is tending a fire.
The sun was beginning to set across the harbour before we left.
Looking down the harbour at the Lighthouse as the sun was going down.
And the street lights began to come on.

A lone loon in the harbour.

Well must go have a chat with that furnace. Enjoy your day!

Day 322 - 17th November 2012 - Flowers and Leaves

Saturday has arrived. I'm off to get groceries this morning then to the Bean Dock for the day. Hoping we have lots of people around to take part in the Christmas Crawl. Not sure how much I'm going to be able to run around as I did something to one of my toes - actually I can't decide if it's broken or not but it really hurts to bear weight on that foot. I'm not sure how stupid I can be to not know what I've done, but it happens. Basically I've been trying to ignore it all week in hopes it will go away or get better, but it doesn't seem to be. However, I'm not going to Out Patients and spending 3-4 hours for a toe.
Another grey and gloomy looking day yesterday. November may have come in nice but it really has gotten rather dismal. So I decided to tackle the pantry instead of the room I just shutter at every time I walk in to it. Will put that off for another day. Anyway the pantry is all sorted out and cleaned once again and ready for some marathon baking. I decided to haul out my kit lens  and practice a little bit with that. I rarely use it, as I prefer the telephoto lens, but I must admit I don't have to stand quite as far away with this one. It really depends on what you are aiming for and since it's in my bag, might as well make some use of it.
I can still find the odd flowers if I look hard enough.
A boat coming into shore.
I always think the hole in this old stump is pretty neat.
A very small mushroom growing from the base of a tree.
I like this, the wind was blowing the dried petals, so I've got a little blur from movement and some still.
Leaves and pine needles in the water.
Guess it's time to get a few things done. Enjoy your day!

Day 321 - 16th November 2012 - Chickadees and the Lake

For the working folks, the weekend is almost here. It's Friday and this month is half over. Can't believe the way time flies by. Temperature is +4.7 and feels mild. Looks like fine weather for the next week. So I'm really not sure what I'm going to do today. I should get this house finished up, so it's not dragging out anymore, before I know it, it's going to be time to start putting up Christmas decorations and do my baking. Tomorrow I'm off to the Bean Dock to lend a hand at the Christmas Crawl - it's a shopping party put on my a group of down town businesses and is always lots of fun. Treats at each place, and a chance to win a basket full of goodies.
Yesterday was a rather dull day. Did all the standard things around the house and started tackling another room - I really don't know where to begin with this one, but will plod along and see if we make any headway. I went before the Law Amendment Committee last evening and had my say on why we should not split our county in two and be lumped in with other districts for voting purposes. 240 years we've had an elected representative and now they want to change it. How asinine is that! There were some excellent speakers with very good points, so hopefully for once the government will hear what we have to say and leave things the way they are.
When Lexi and I were out walking yesterday I realized I have to start getting more creative with photos, there aren't any pretty leaves or flowers, things are looking kind of blah. It's that in between time of the seasons.
Peeking through the bare branches at the lake.
This little chickadee was kind enough to pose for me.
The more I watch them the more I think they are my favourite bird.
Some white foam around the shore today. Wind was up and waves were on the lake.
Well time to get moving. Enjoy your day!

Day 320 - 15th November 2012 - Birds, the Lake and Buoys

Sometimes my beloved dog can be a royal pain. She's been fussing half the night - not sure what her problem is but finally after I got up [too early] she has settled down, on a mat in the living room. She even had Larry up once. Temperature is +3.6 and it's suppose to be a nice day. So glad the rain is suppose to be over for a few days. Lots to do around here, have a reference letter to do - but I think I have it more or less composed in my head,  just a matter of writing it. I also have to run through my presentation for this evening. I called last week to be put on the list to speak when the Law Amendments Committee come to town. They've come up with a brilliant [not] idea to split our county in two and dump each half with Argyle and Queen's for voting purposes. How stupid can that really be and where will it end. Who is going to look after our interests - no one by the sound of it. Anyway, I hope a lot of people have called in and will speak, it takes place on Thursday evening  and Friday. Thinking I better try to squeeze a nap in sometime during the day so I can appear smart tonight.
What a miserable day yesterday was - weather wise it was raining, blowing and cold - yuk! That's the really nasty thing about rain this time of year it's cold - where did our summer weather of Monday and Tuesday go??And my day of volunteering started off with a witch [that's the only polite thing I can say], some people should just crawl under a rock and stay there and leave the rest of the world alone. The rest of the day went pretty well.
Enjoying a mid day snack.
The lake and sky looked so beautiful a few days ago.
Plane exhaust on a much clearer day!
This buoy always looks so lonely.
Grasses against the lake.
And my favourite feathered friends.
Well it's that time. Enjoy your day!
