Day 237 - 24th August 2012 - Spooky trees, Fog and Cobwebs

Hey it's Friday! Slept a bit better, although had some restless periods during the night but at least stayed in bed until 5. The weekend is only one short day away from us. Looking forward to accomplishing a lot today and will be very happy if I do. I've got one research report that I'd really like to get finished off. Then next week I'll tackle another bunch.  I'm making headway. Think I'll even treat myself to a bacon scallop wrap today for lunch. Am thinking about a dear friend this morning who is helping her daughter get ready for her wedding tomorrow. I'm sure they will be buzzing around all day doing last minute preparations for the big day. This is a new chapter in both their lives. Good luck girls!

Thursday, a relatively quiet day at the office, with only a short hiccup. So I actually got some work done up.It was also another hot day.  Felt a little drained last evening.

Some photos I took yesterday morning on my way to meet Nancy. The woods look spooky with all the fog hanging through the trees!

Lots of cobwebs were around - in the trees, on the ground.

Day 236 - 23rd August 2012 - Mushrooms and Butterflies

Another too early morning. I seemed to have woke up with the same headache I went to bed with - ugh not going to be a great day in that case. I see the weather forecast is promising more sun again today and for the remainder of the week. I've been going to take photos of the sunsets the last few nights but I keep getting distracted and then it's too late Will try for that this evening.

Yesterday was more eventful than I would have liked. Drama, drama, drama. Enough said on that subject. Lexi and I got some housework done, baked a zucchini chocolate cake, cooked supper and made a sausage/rice casserole for tonight. And I proofread a research report. Of course we managed a few walks. Went through the woods to the lake, stopped and had tea with Lois, warm on her deck today until a cloud nicely appeared over head offering us some shade.

Walking through the path, wonder what she sees, maybe my camera should be pointed in that direction rather than at her.

Anyone reading that is looking for a Christmas gift for me ... how about a book on identifying wild mushrooms? Just a thought!

Have to cut up some of the chocolate cake to send to a couple of gals for their coffee break. Larry will drop it off to them on his way to work, otherwise they will be like scavengers rummaging through his truck [just kidding].  Have a few office things to finish off this morning and I guess I better take a couple of tylenol.

Day 235 - 22 August 2012 - The Lake, Birds and the Forest

Wednesday and my day off. Work to do at home. Why does every week feel the same? Maybe routine is a good thing sometime. At least this morning I feel better than yesterday.
Another hot day yesterday. It wasn't busy, managed to get caught up a bit, but wasted time hunting for some papers I had put away. Eventually found them after ripping apart several desks and filing cabinets. If nothing else I got that section cleaned out!

The lake yesterday morning looked very similiar to the evening before. Sunrise comes later these days.

Day 234 - 21 August 2012 - Shades of Red, Birds and Clouds

Going to be a long day, up before 4am. I should manage an hour of work anyway to help get myself back on track. My eyes are open and I"m mobile but my brain feels foggy this morning. Usually mornings are my best time. I think I spent most of the night dreaming Do you ever have that feeling that you did a lot of work or had a lot on the go in your dreams but can't quite remember what it was? It just sits right there on the edge of conscience but you can't grasp it. That's sort of the way I feel this morning.

What a busy day I had yesterday! Wow - people came out of the woodwork, so needless to say I didn't get done what was on my list, oh well, try again today. I did work a few hours after supper to get a some things done. Then a walk to clear my brain.

Don't tell me the leaves are starting to turn!

Hummingbird sits for a minute in the apple tree, I think the apples are bigger than her.

The females aren't as friendly as they males, they rarely sit on the fence.

I really love sitting in the kitchen window and watching the birds on the fence. Someone know what this is?

Day 233 - 20th August 2012 - Goldfinch, the Lake and Butterflies

Monday has arrived again...blah! Not much we can do about it so might as well just get on with the day. They go fast enough that it really doesn't matter. Have some research to finish off for people, hopefully I can get at least one of them done today, along with a few other things. My goal is to get a lot of stuff caught up by the end of the month. Not sure how successful I'll be but will give it a try.

More humidity on Sunday, rain early in the day, cleared off then a shower before supper. Nova Scotia weather - wait 5 minutes and it will change! It's that time of year when we start blanching and freezing vegetables for the winter months. Even though fresh vegetables may be the way to go, I would rather eat my own frozen vegetables than the fresh available in the stores in January- ya just never know where they've come from and most of the time they are flavourless and way too expensive.

Day 232 - 19th August 2012 - Geese, Big Dead Fish and Sunflowers

Woke up this morning to the sound of rain and thunder. Can see flashes of  lightning in the sky as well. Guess it will be mostly an indoor day. Well there are things that need to be done around here and perhaps they will get looked after.

Saturday started off as another foggy morning, but turned very hot and the humidity popped in there as well. Had a great day, left home around 11am for Yarmouth. Now the Shark Scramble was not my idea, but sometimes you just have to let the love of your life pick the photo shoot location and topic while you just tell yourself - yes watching them weigh big dead fish is fun!  Now the sight of fish guts doesn't bother me in the least, after all this end of the province makes it's living from fishing and I spent many of my early years playing in a fish plant and aboard boats. However, after the first few sharks were weighed it was getting dull. We met Larry's brother Chris and boys, so it was really nice to spend time with them too. After awhile everyone decided that we had had enough sun and heat, Ian had a ball game [which actually got cancelled] so we went off to get some lunch, then we all headed in our own directions. Did some shopping, and they tracked us down again at the grocery store to invite us for supper. Larry and I headed out to their place to enjoy Chris' birthday supper and then homeward bound. 

I was so excited when I spied this flock of Canada Geese in some one's yard on the back road to Yarmouth. 

Larry counted about 24 altogether.

The boats went out on Wednesday evening [17 in all] and returned Friday with their catch. I think they were allowed 3 sharks each. Apparently they head to warm water as this is where they are found.

For those who don't like big dead fish - time to sign off!

They were all blue shark, except for one mako shark.

Another comes out. DFO was on site making an examination of their stomach contents and recording size etc. for research purposes, I think. Apparently they will eat anything.

They are then cut up, put on ice and later are sold. My understanding is that the money raised goes to local charities.

Of course there are prizes for the boat that brings in the biggest Shark.

To end the day - Darolyn's sunflowers. The Ovarian Cancer Society sell the seeds as a fundraiser. They are rather interesting as the stalks are only 2 feet tall with huge flowers on top!
