Day 266 - 23rd September 2015 - Cormorant, Black & White Warbler, Grandmother's Journal

Day off, thank goodness. Time to get caught up on the housework etc. Will have to get an early walk in since I have to be home "in case" they come to fix the phone. Maybe I need to make some bread, that always makes me feel better. Kneading is very therapeutic - good for getting your frustrations out.
Well the first couple day of this week have not been fabulous that's for sure. The pump issue took Larry most of the day to fix - nothing ever comes easy in our house and ended with the need for a new pump as this one is almost worn out (working for now though).  I had "words" with Aliant about the telephone being repaired. Things have to get better - right? But on the plus side I'm still walking and talking which must be good.
Someone needs a little Grandmother's Journal this morning:
25th September 1976: A beautiful day. Bob worked at getting ground ready for trees [apple]. Had a flat tire on the tractor, took it to town around noon. I worked cooking and making pickles. Very tired tonight. Over for a game of crib with Gertrude late in the afternoon. She came over tonight. Dance at Hall which they are going to. Cold at night. Ice over car this morning.
26th September 1976: Very cold overnight, ice in Jays water tire. Beautiful day. Pulled onions. Picked tomatoes, still small. Made pickles, cleaned windows. Bob put storm windows on. Mr & Mrs. Arthur Bruce, Bernice Allen, Ralph & Alice Halliday were up. Lewis, Rita & Mary had their picnic lunch with them. Worked all day. Reggie & Gertrude over, Gertrude and her friend Edith took some pictures. Bob & Mike up.
Our Cormorant has come to say good bye to us before spending the winter in the Harbour. He usually appears in the spring for a bit and again in the fall.

The sun was lazy coming over the tree tops.
Common Yellow-Throat Warbler
The Cormorant was skipping across the water.
Palm Warbler.
Black & White Warbler.

Day 265 - 22nd September 2015 - Common Yellow-Throat, Chickadee and Grasses

Hoping for a smoother day. Stars are all out, chill in the air - fall has arrived. Temperature is +10. Actually I think tomorrow is the fall equinox. Maybe today I'll actually get something done. Monday was one of those hamster on the wheel days - go around and around and get nothing done.
Saw a few birds on my walk yesterday. Decided to skip exercise last night so that I could catch up on the laundry, etc. that I didn't get done on the weekend. Plans foiled - pressure switch gone on the pump. No water last night. Did I mention the phone isn't working either. Bestie had loaned me her old laptop so I'm in business til I get a new one later this week - good news the tech was able to retrieve my data and photos from the old one. So hopefully soon you'll get to see Sunday and Monday's posts with pics from our weekend away. And there is a very good reason I dislike Mondays!
Common Yellow Throat Warbler - they are still active in the hood.
Beautiful morning on the lake, just a hint of color in the sky.
Chickadees were flitting around.
The grasses still look good along the shoreline and swamps.

Enjoy your day!

Day 262 - 19th September 2015 - Sunrise, Cobwebs and Reflections.

Car is packed - veggies, tools and luggage, now to get the rest of the crew mobile so we can get on the road. My idea of a road trip is leaving at the crack of dawn, love to get on the road early. Maybe we'll see something exciting on the way. I'm booked for Whaling watching this afternoon, hoping to see a Puffin or two and a few other birds. Looking forward to a weekend escape and a visit with good friends.
My morning walk, Friday didn't yield much - it was pretty quiet. It was a good morning at the office, but the afternoon wasn't - you know one of those nasty afternoons! Thank goodness it was short lived, although I did feel a couple of pangs of pain in my head. Funny how a little stress or upset can do that. One of the side effects of Shingles. Anyway the day got finished and we headed home.
I love sunrises over the lake this time of year. The colors are golden, soft and hazy.

Cobwebs in the morning light.
On a clear morning the reflections are wonderful.
You could almost flip the photo upside down.
Lots of pine cones - a sign of a hard winter?

Enjoy your day!

Day 261 - 18th September 2015 - Hermit Thrush, Sunrise and Red-Breasted Nuthatch

Here we are at Friday once again. The weeks go by quickly. Some I'm happier to see the end of than others. Looks like another fine day in the making. Some things to finish off today. These evening have to get everything ready to take with us on Saturday. I'd like to get on the road early, but we'll see how that works out. House sitter is booked so everything is falling into place.
Another beautiful day. The fog lifted quickly and the sun shone brightly, gentle breeze - perfect fall weather. Hopefully we have more days like this. Alas, the days are growing shorter. Daylight comes later and nightfall earlier. That's the one thing I miss most about the summer months those early mornings, coffee on the deck listening to the birds wake up. These days it's become quieter in the backyard. Soon we'll start fill the bird feeders and enjoy those that come for that. The Hummingbirds have left. Their feeder remains out for a while as an offering to those who are passing through on the trip to warmer winter climates. Hoping fall will last a long time before the unmentionable sets in.
The Hermit Thrushes were active yesterday morning. Several of them around.

I was at the right place at the right time as I left for my walk - the sun was shining through the trees.
Through the fog it glows like a fire.
Red-Breasted Nuthatch.

Day 260 - 17th September 2015 - Sunrise, Song Sparrow, Black-Throated Blue Warbler and Dragon Fly

Thursday - work day. Stars are all out but I don't hear the Owl this morning. Better sleep last night which I'm grateful for. Guess I'll continue on with research from Tuesday and hopefully finish it up today. Fingers crossed, would like to start seeing an end to a couple I've been trying to work out for too long. Exercise class tonight, if all goes well - will get there. Need to start back on a more regular basis.
Beautiful day in the hood. The sun came out, I roamed several times and it was a good day. Did up a little housework, some cooking and got most of our things packed for the weekend. Well at least Lexi has her bag packed I still have a few things to throw together.  Not so many birds around on my morning walk, getting quieter every day. Was nice to see the Black-Throated Blue Warbler but that was practically in my yard when I got home again.

The sun came up.

Hydrangeas in a neighbour's yard.
Black-Throated Blue Warbler.
Song Sparrow wagging his tail.
Lois', hen Lucy, her chicks were running all over the yard.
The Big Red Girl had her's settled in for a nap.
There are tons of Dragonflies around now.

Day 259 - 16th September 2015 - Dragonfly, Ducks and Boats in the Harbour

Wednesday - day off, that's nice. Stars are all out and I can hear a Owl across the lake. Temperature is +13, cooler mornings and evenings now. Going away on the weekend so lots to do today. Muffins for next week - will toss those in the freezer (if I can find room), housework, pack, etc. I'll take a little time this morning to roam the hood. Maybe, just maybe today will be the day I find something different.
Tuesday was definitely better than Monday! As the week moves on the days get better, maybe we can just hit the delete button on Mondays from now on. My morning walks are fairly quiet, ran into a small bunch of Chickadees, Magnolia Warblers, Northern Parulas and Red-Breasted Nuthatch but that was about all. A rather quiet day at work, making headway just not sure how much. After supper - just the norm - run the broom around, clean up the kitchen. Life sounds exciting!
 Dragonfly.
Didn't notice until I downloaded the photos that there was a fly  on the wood too.

The best side of the Magnolia Warbler.
The Ducks were waiting for breakfast.
The light was coming through in the harbour, boats and dory's bobbed along.

Enjoy your day!

Day 258 - 15th September 2015 - Chickadees, Blue-Headed Vireo and Yellow-Rumped Warbler

Stars are all out this morning, I'm up too early once again. I wish I could stop opening my eyes at 4:39 am - weird time but seems to be stuck in my mind nearly every day! Onward I go. I've got two research projects I'd like to finish up and get rid of this week, have been hanging on way too long. Seems I get interrupted too much but that's the nature of the job.
Another Monday gone - thank goodness. Not sure why they have to be so ugh! Quiet walk in the morning, til I got almost to the end and the birds started to get active. Maybe it was the grey dismal day that kept them quiet for so long. Fall is definitely arriving - slowly but surely. I can see a hint of colors in some of the Maple trees.  This season I will embrace as it's my favourite time of year. Cool nights, warm days - a crispness in the air. I worked on my photo edits last evening, Larry did some harvesting from the garden - zucchini, beans, corn and tomatoes. More tomato sauce made up for the winter.
Found a flock of Chickadees yesterday morning on my walk.
He's sure holding on tight.
Blue-Headed Vireo - haven't seen this guy for a week or so.

Probably a Yellow-Rumped Warbler but wouldn't come out from behind the branches and leaves.
Looking down at the Wharf Saturday night from the Yacht Club.

Enjoy your day!
