Day 257 - 13th September 2012 - Misty Mornings, Lexi and another Squirrell

Thursday and work - a few things I need to finish up and get off my list today. Our book fair is only 2 weeks away so need to get a couple of things done up for that.  Excercise class this evening and hair appointment after work. Thank goodness I'm getting it cut, can't stand it too much longer.
Had a great day at home yesterday - did the minimal amount of house work that needed to be done. Did some baking, made spagetti sauce from some of the tomatoes in the garden and ribs for supper. With the cooler evenings and fall in motion now I've been thinking about the gingerbread whoppie pie recipe I found on Pinterest a few weeks back. It was the day to try those out. I wasn't keen on the filling recipe so reverted to the one I normally use when doing chocolate ones but added a few key ingredients from theirs - a few drops of dark rum and nutmeg. And it did give it a kind of eggnog flavour. Anyway they were a hit when Larry tried one after supper. If you aren't familiar with the whoppie pie - they are two delicious cake like cookies sandwiched together with a creamy filling. Now some people use a combination of marshmallow cream and icing sugar/butter but I do one that is icing sugar/butter creamed together with a mix of milk and flour which has been cooked and cooled.
A couple of the women came down and we went over stuff for the catering job on Sunday at the Hall. A wonderful lady in our community is turning 90 and her family is having an open house Sunday afternoon.
The sun was breaking through the mist and tress - looks framed.
Lexi checking out the lake - what you can see of it - thick fog/mist yesterday morning.
The sun reflecting in the lake.
Getting a little clearer - can see the neighbour's dock now.
A nice place to sit and rest and enjoy the view on a sunny day.
Love the mist rising up in front of the Island.
Yes another squirrel, but they are just so darn cute right now!
Always the lake is pretty in the evening.
Time to run - Enjoy your day!

Day 256 - 12th September 2012 - Sunrises, Ducks and another Squirrel

Wednesday and my day off! It will be my normal day  of baking and housework, I think. Oh, almost forgot I've got a bucket of tomatoes I need to cook up and make sauce with. I'm sure Lexi and I will get out and enjoy some of the fall flavour around too. Need to walk as I can feel a few twinges in some of my muscles from the exercise class Monday night. Once again this morning the stars and moon are still out. Guess that's going to be the way it is for the next few months.

So much cooler yesterday but with nice sunshine that would warm you up. Left some of the windows open in the morning and when we got home it was cooler inside than outside. Another sign of fall. Everything went well on the work front. Am still getting some researchers visiting. This time of year the retired folks tend to visit more so than in the summer months. Also heard from someone that I've wondered about for a while. Come to find out she had surgery last year and they didn't make their annual trip this way. But all is well and they will visit next year. Always nice to keep up with everyone.
A walk after supper - evenings are getting shorter too and dusk comes early.
Moon was still in the sky yesterday morning when I got up and went down to catch the sunrise on the lake.
A gently sunrise - soft colors nothing bright and bold.
Coming in for a landing.
Gathering up cones, getting ready for winter.
And he takes off again, didn't hang around long.
A Coast Guard Boat in the harbour yesterday morning.
It's not a rock in the foreground, it's four ducks upside down feeding in the water with their bums in the air! Love it!
But there is better stuff - time for the cracked corn!
Now they are really happy - greedily eating their corn.
Well folks almost time for the rest of the house to get up. Enjoy your day!

Day 255 - 11th September 2012 - Squirrel, Sunrises and Evenings on the Lake

Much cooler in the morning now when I get up -temperature is +12. The rest of the week looks like sunshine. The Whirligig Festival and Boat Races are being held on the weekend. Hopefully on Saturday we will find some time to check them both out. Today I'm hoping to finish off a couple of research projects. Always good if you can get something off your list by the end of the day.

Yesterday went pretty good, got some things done up, started a few more. Having a few problems finding sources for some research but I'm sure it will sort it's self out sooner or later. A fresh day will give fresh eyes. Back to exercise classes last night. We did something called intervals - nothing like a room full of sweaty women. Some of these girls really know there moves, me - unco-ordinated should be my middle name. So Barb says - "Do you like it? I said no, why would I like this, but I'm going to keep doing it." I may feel different in the morning but will keep at this. Unfortunately when your young, you can starve yourself for a few days and drop 5 lbs. I couldn't fast for a week and drop 2 lbs these days. It's not only that - but  things are slacker than they use to be - muscles etc. Enough said!
It did clear off including the air. Humidity dropped - so much nicer. Oh and I discovered last evening we are going to have a new neighbour, who I happen to know. Welcome to the hood!

Caught this little fellow one more when I was out creeping around in my pj's catching the sunrise! He wasn't really happy to have company.
An early morning on the lake.
Later that day a reflection of clouds in the lake.
Water lily pads without any water?
An evening look on the lake.

Well my quiet time has ended, Lexi decided that Larry should be out of bed too. He's not a happy camper I'm sure. Enjoy your day!

Day 254 - 10th September 2012 - Pickled Beets, Wild Mushrooms and Grasses

Woke to the sound of rain again this morning. Saw a flash of lightning, but am hoping it was the end of it. No thunder yet according to my four legged gauge [Lexi] - she's not freaking out so that's good. Suppose to end sometime today, but the weather forecast says to expect up to 100 mm by then.  That's a lot of rain, but we can use it, everything is really dry and the lake is low. The rest of the week looks peachy with nice sunny days. It's Monday again isn't it and back to work time. Exercise class this evening. See if I can struggle through another night. I just tell myself - this is a good thing and I need it.
Well Sunday was a day of rain, wind and as little as possible for me. Did the minimal amount of work around the house that was required. But my dear hubby, Larry was the workhorse. He got carrots, corn and beets done up and in the freezer and did a batch of pickled beets. Not to mention cooking a roast for supper. Do I sound like a bad wife or what? He enjoys spending time in the kitchen - pickles etc are his thing not mine. I like to bake and do the meals most of the time. Of course the humidity was high and since he had vegetables cooking all morning the kitchen was even more humid - even the ceiling looked wet. Got the dehumidifier going though and that solved the problem.
So I still had a slight urge to get out my Christmas baking notebook and that's what I spent my time doing - plotting what I would bake, starting a list of friends and families who would be recipients of tins filled with goodies. This is my favourite part of the holidays, baking and packaging it all up to give away. It's what gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.
Pickled beets, tomatoes for spaghetti sauce and apples for apple crisp.
Taking a break to preen as he flew through the woods.
Lots of mushrooms in the woods these days.
One of my favourites - I like the pink color and style.
These look pretty cool - the photo is not great but they almost look like paper.
The grasses along the shore are so interesting.
Time for another coffee, check my emails and get my day in to gear! Enjoy your day!

Day 253 - 9th September 2012 - Ferns and A Chickadee

Woke up to a rainy, windy morning with thunder in the air. So today I'll do everything in the housework department I didn't do yesterday. Temperature is the same inside and outside +22.5. Warm and humid - ugh! The weekends go by fast don''t they? Seems that September is one of the those super busy months where weekends really aren't ours, but filled with activities. Shouldn't complain - winter will be long and dull I'm sure.

Sunny Saturday with a balmy breeze. A little on the humid side though. Groceries, laundry, a bit of housework and a walk. Larry and I gave Lexi a bath in the lake - she's really dry so I'm hoping this helps. Then they worked putting wood in the basement and got some veggies out of the garden. I had a deep urge to pull out my Christmas baking book in the afternoon, but resisted - might just do that today if I still have that feeling. An exciting day! An evening of laughs playing cards rounded out the day.
Most of the ferns are still really green and pretty.
Tucked away next to a tree, these impatiens are still flowering profusely.
I just like this tree and the way the limb wraps around the hole and continues to grow.
This cute little chickadee put on a show for me.
Like an acrobat!
Got it! Not sure what he was after but I see it in his little beak.
Since I've overslept a bit, time to have my coffee. Enjoy your day!

Day 252 - 8th September 2012 - Sheep and a Horse

Saturday - the weekend - what's planned?? The normal housework and groceries. Suppose to be mainly fine today, rain tomorrow so the housework may get postponed until then. We have been invited out for a card tournament this evening - it's all in fun with a bunch of friends. Will decide on that later this afternoon.

Yesterday I spent some time pulling out things for CBC, but they didn't show up. That's just rude - not to call or anything. I guess there is a reason I only watch the news and Corrie on there. Anyway, it's done, so now Monday I'll waste an hour putting things back. Friday seemed to be an exercise in wasted time or doing things that other people were suppose to do in the first place. Hopefully the episode of Cultureville they are putting together will help promote our little town. Oh well, these days happen, might as well suck it up princess and move one.
The garden group had a potluck supper last night, it was good lots of variety including a corn boil. It was good but we didn't stay late - Lexi had been hope all day so...time to head home.
I enjoy the flags they always have out in the yard when I go by.
A cottage tucked in behind the trees on the lake.
I believe they think I'm going to feed them, they are coming towards the fence.
The remains of summer.
A wee bird lands on the barrels.
Self-framing?
The lambs are growing up, almost as big as their mothers now.
The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
Time to go, enjoy your day!

Day 251 - 7th September 2012 - Clouds and Spiderwebs

It's Friday and the weekend is soon upon us. Potluck supper tonight to go to - made a zucchini chocolate cake before I went exercising last night. So that's looked after. Tomorrow night I think we have a card game we are invited to. Another weekend filled up. Need to get through the day - have CBC visiting or at least they called a few days ago to say they would be in. They are doing a program on community culture. Wonder how I can make 10 lbs disappear and grow 6" taller - oh well I am as I am!
Busy day on Thursday, but got through some more things. So I made up my mind and went to exercise class last night. I survived, I think, however, the girls tell me that the the feeling of hurt will come on Saturday. Apparently it takes 2 days to really be in pain. They are a great bunch and you can go at your own pace if you are a newbie, she drills the rest pretty hard! Wonder how long I can play that newbie card! I wanted to take my camera but that was frowned upon, so today's photos are actually a few days old but that's ok.
Another beautiful morning on the lake.
Spider webs hang from branches. You have to catch the light just right in order to take them. They really are quite amazing.
The skies were a bit like this today.
I laid on the beach the other day and took these next few upside down.
Sometimes it's good to look at everyday things in a different way.
Time to move on, the rest of the family is up and mobile too. Enjoy your day!
