Day 250 - 6th September 2012 - Shoe Cookies, Red Doors, Wildflowers

Back to work today - am doing pretty good for a short week, so maybe today I can get some more things caught up. Will this evening be the beginning of me going to exercise class? I'm working up to it and I did plan on starting in September. Cindy runs it twice a week in Lower Ohio, although the girls say she is hard on a person. Oh my I could be scared. Hopefully I won't wake up Friday morning in pain. I have finally admitted [to myself] that the only way these few extra pounds are going to disappear is through exercise. Now I love to walk , but not really keen on other forms of exercise, but we will give it a try.

Well it sure did rain yesterday - mostly harder in the afternoon with some wind! Lexi and I got caught in it twice - first time soaked to the skin, second time I wore my rain jacket so I made out ok. After that we gave up. It was a day of doing a few things around the house, some computer work and made Shoe cookies with my new cookie cutter! Also roasted a chicken for supper with more fabulous vegetable from the garden. Love this time of year.

Day 249 - 5th September 2012 - Fog on the Lake, fine on the Harbour, Memories

Wednesday, my day off and rain in the forecast - lots by the sound of things. Now somewhere I had a list of things to do on a rainy day...where did I put that.
The first day of school. The little ones will be going off on the bus this morning, some for the first time. Most of the kids going to Uni left Sunday or Monday to get settled in. I'm in to the 9th month of the blog; can't believe the year is racing by so quickly.

Yesterday was another nice day, got lots of things finished up at work, and had a few researchers in. September is the month for retired folks to travel. I see on the news Halifax is getting lots of Cruise Ships, too bad we couldn't get a few here.

4 September 1972
Labour Day Holiday
A small hurricane not to much wind and rain all night. Came out fine early afternoon. I made some zucchini pickles. Worked all day at one thing and another. Muriel and Russ McKay dropped in in the afternoon late. Glad to see them. Bob worked outside doing odd jobs in the workshop, etc. Canadians won hockey last night.
5 September 1972
Lovely day, fallish tonight. To town early with Tomatoes (ripe) and cukes. $8.10 [She sold them to one of the stores]. Annie went with us. Bill went home [her grandson] to school (Wednesday). She has gone to stay now. Didn't get home until 4:30, washed and did some shopping. Took all Kim's stuff home. Picked a cup of ripe strawberries, some good. No blueberries this year. Fran was in town from Barrington getting car serviced at Hipson's. Bob drove her around.

The lake had thick fog rolling up from it this morning.

It has the haunted movie look!

 

By the time I got to town there was no fog in the harbour. Looking across at one of the picnic table in the park.

The boats were quiet yesterday morning.

Day 248 - 4th September 2012 - Spotted Sandpipers, Clouds, Mallards and Red Breasted Nuthatch

Tuesday and back to work, feels like I haven't been there forever. Stars are still out, daylight comes so late now. I've got  lots to do today, haven't thought about any of it all weekend - that's good. Have been trying not to bring so much of it home unless I really have to. Sometimes deadlines, etc. mean I need to but otherwise I find I'm more rested and relaxed if I'm not working on office material 24/7.

Yesterday was another nice fall day - sun and cooler. Larry worked at putting some wood in the basement and mowed the lawn, I puddled around at this and that. Looked after Lois' cats as they were away. One is rather independent, but the other likes some human companionship, especially in the morning when I go to feed them. She insists on have a cuddle and follows me, almost wrapped around my legs. We had the first of our corn from the garden last night - oh it was soo good, sweet and tasty. Larry picked some more, a few more days and the rest will be ready. Some will go in the freezer for winter.

Spotted Sandpipers on a rock in the lake. They seem to like to hang around.

The clouds went back and forth - dark one minute, fluffy and white the next - sometimes both at the same time.

Mallard - there were a few of them until someone went by in a speedboat and they flew off.

The lake was stunning yesterday afternoon.

Not quite sure what this little fellow is. But he was flitting back and forth across the road.

Love the look of trees in the lake.

Day 247 -3rd September 2012 - Moon, Boats, Shoes and Sand

Monday - the last day of the long weekend. Where did it go? Larry and Lexi are sleeping in, so did I actually - no early morning for me and it was nice for a change. I think some baking will get done this morning, have the urge to make pizza - this kind has chocolate of course, and maybe some cookies, not sure yet. Larry will put some more wood in the basement and hopefully not fall today, like he did yesterday. I should spend some time cleaning off some more photos from my laptop, but that may wait for a rainy day.

Yesterday was a busy day. Up early - of course, saw the full moon. Somehow I'm more excited in the morning than evening about these things. Huge big breakfast to send Dorothy and Roger home on - fishcakes, bacon, eggs, toasts and cinnamon rolls. Truthfully I didn't need to eat again all day but I did. Larry loaded them up with lots of vegetables from the garden. Dorothy will be baking and shredding zucchini for a month! We did some stuff around the house then decided to go for a drive. Went down to Carleton Village, visited some of the family who are at cottage there, walked the beach. Got some pics of the sailboats in the Regatta, then drove over to Sandy Point to try for more. Did a little trespassing [joking - I knew they wouldn't mind]. Home, supper, pj's and feet up! A good evening.

Day 246 - 2nd September 2012 - Pink Skies, Grey Cats and Ducks

Sunday - still dark with a sky full of stars - makes me think of the nursery rhyme - "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star"  The sun doesn't rise as early anymore but it goes to bed earlier. The days are getting shorter, sign of fall. I miss the mornings most.  Dorothy and Roger have to leave this morning, so we'll cook up a big breakfast to get them on the road. Bacon, Eggs, Fishcakes, Toast - should hold them for a few hours! Larry's going to run up to  the garden and send them home with some veggies too. Not sure what the plans for the rest of the day are - probably start putting wood in the basement, then maybe we'll take a little drive somewhere - not too far - the price of gas is horrid!

Yesterday was a beautiful day - sunshine, little breeze. I quietly crept out shortly after 6am and got some pictures of the sun rising. Tidied up a bit and did the grocery shopping.  Company arrived mid afternoon. Had a great supper thanks to Larry who did most of the cooking -  a meatloaf and fresh veggies from the garden. He did the cooking, I did the dishes, guess that's only fair. The guys took Lexi for a drive and a run after supper, they went to Clam Lake way up the road and didn't get home until after dark. Dorothy and I walked over to the lake with our cameras. The ducks flew in and didn't seemed to be bothered by us at all.

Day 245 - 1st September 2012 - Skies, Ducks, Windows and A Shoe

Saturday, the long weekend and a new month. Company coming this afternoon, will be a nice evening spent with good friends. Have to get some housework done this morning and go grocery shopping. Dorothy says she's bringing dessert for supper so that's off my list, although I don't mind baking.
Yesterday was pretty good, but one of those days where a nap in the middle of the office after lunch would have been nice. Think it must have been the humidity creeping back in. Blue Moon last night, I missed it earlier but saw it just as I was getting ready for bed peeping out from the pine trees.

A familiar look at the lake yesterday morning but I don`t think I ever get tired of it.

Very quietly I watched from the bushes along the road.

And away they go!

Umm... guess someone lost a shoe!

Probably shouldn`t be taking photos through people`s cottages, but I just liked the look of it. You can see the lake through the back window.

The clouds had turned darker and the sun began to go down. I missed the Blue Moon, but that's ok.

The ducks were flying by again last evening. Off into the sunset this time.
