The weekend has arrived and with it mild temperatures this morning +1.1 and a too early morning for me. This time of year I am home, so weekends aren't that special, but I know for all of those Monday - Friday workforce folks it's a time to catch up on chores at home, and spend some time with family which I too will appreciate again come the middle of April.

b/w through the pines looking at the lake |
Spring has sprung! +7.8 early afternoon. We went to beach before lunch - not saltwater since that would have been too cold, but to Welkum Park on Welshtown Lake. Yes that lake too was frozen over, but we enjoyed walking around, taking pictures and Lexi had a run.
The Municipality of the District of Shelburne oversees and maintains the Park. I hadn't been there in years and many of the facilities were new to me. Nice to see a place available to the public for families, etc. on a hot summer day or we fools who like it on a quiet January day!

Not foam along the lake, but snow |
Welshtown was part of the land that the early Welsh settlers called their home. In those first years it was referred to as New Cambria. There are still families living in the area who are descendants of those who came from Wales in 1818 and 1819.

Background is where Lake Deception goes into the river

On the way back home we stopped by the river to snap a few more photos. In contrast to the lakes which are frozen [not necessarily thick enough for skating] the river is running free.
Truly hard to believe that it is January.
And last but not least a few feathered friends - mallards sunning themselves on a rock in the river.
Unbelievable weather for January 7th. but I will take it!!
