.....celebrated on the last Monday before May 25, in honour of Queen Victoria's birthday. The date is also, simultaneously, that on which the current reigning Canadian sovereign's official birthday is recognized. It is sometimes informally considered as marking the beginning of the summer season in Canada.Someone once told me it was the "2-4" weekend. In Nova Scotia they refer to cases of twenty-four beer as "2-4's". I guess that's what they meaning by marking the beginning of summer!
A few photos today but not many it's been busy and rushed with family business and not much time to sneak off. When I did try the mosquitoes carried me away. Hopefully this weekend Larry and I will find a bit of time to escape for a while with our cameras. Perhaps find a new hidden gem in our lovely county.
The Lupins on the side of our country roads will soon be in bloom. They aren't my favourite flower but sure add some color as you drive along.
I've been watching for these in the woods, and I remember other years that the mosquoitoes were bad when they bloomed. Sure enough yesterday there they were!
The lady slippers will be in bloom soon, found this one budded up yesterday. Among my favourite wild flowers (Yes I know I say that about all of them!)
Some of the ferns are out, waving in the wind, soft and wispy, others like this are just beginning. There are lots of different types throughout the forest. Another of my favs. Perhaps I'll have to get a book on them.
Well folks, it promises to be a busy day, so I will bid you good bye for another morning. Some better photos to come in the next few days, I hope.
Enjoy your day!
Condolences to you and your hubby. The picks are beautiful, as always. I love lady slippers too. There used to be a whole bunch on the lot next door until it was built on. I miss them.
ReplyDeletethanks Donna, I can't wait to see the lady slippers, have been a favourite since I was a little girl.
