Day 283 - 9th October 2016 - Whales, Black-Legged Kittiwake, Great Shearwater and Eider

Here we are again - Sunday and it's time to pack up and head home.  It's been a great weekend. Although, truthfully as many times as we've come to visit Dorothy and Roger's on the Island, we always have a good time. This morning we'll stop and have breakfast at the Tiverton Fire Hall, then catch the ferry for home.
Yesterday was a beautiful day, I roamed the hood looking for birds but it's as sparse here as home - mostly Song Sparrows,  few Swamp Sparrows and a White Throated Sparrow. I was rewarded when we went Whaling watching with a lifer - Black Legged Kittiwake. We went out with Mariner Cruises Whale and Seabird Tours - their last tour of the season. Not a lot of birds around but did see the Kittiwakes, Great Shearwaters, Cormorants, Eiders a few I need to figure out along with 3-4 Whales.  Two Whales were swimming together and then they joined a third one which was really pretty cool.
It occurred to me when I downloaded the photos that when it comes to tails - the undertails of Birds and Whales are distinctive.

Brought his head up this time.

Enjoy your day!
