Day 156 - 5th June 2015 - Grackle, Mallards, Clintonia and Grandmother's Journal

Friday has arrived once again. Temperature is +4, tad chilly. There is a strange combination of sounds this morning as I sat on the deck watching dawn arrive. Owls across the lake and maybe one below, a Loon and the sweet sound of Song Sparrows along the edge of the yard. Then a Hermit Thrush begins his song somewhere handy. My favourite time of day and season - where I can get up early and listen to nature and block out the fast pace of the world for just a little while. It was a busy day Thursday, with little accomplished or not much that I had planned to get done. It will come together I'm sure. Larry came home with lobsters, the owner of the boat they are building gave him. So while I went to exercise class - he cooked and shelled them. Oh what a great treat when I came home.
Grandmother's Journal:
5 June 1976: Beautiful day, worked hard all day. Cooked and put clothes, etc. away. Not in to bad shape now.
6 June 1976: Nice morning. Came in overcast and showers this evening. Worked hard most of day. Ransome and Ena here for a visit. After they, Dave Kennedy and wife here to talk dogs for a short visit. I looked after dog so Bob won't get wet. Still coughing some. Need some rain now.
7 June 1976: To work early. Fine, overcast most of the day. Showers this evening. Warner's at their house. Saw a deer in their field this morning. See the odd deer. Not many rabbits, seldom a porkie [porcupine]. Nothing different. Leaves are beautiful now. Colors so soft and velvety.

A Grackle forages along the shore line, flipping leaves looking for breakfast.
The male Mallards are hunting for breakfast as well. Soon we should see the females and babies.
I guess I got a little to close for comfort and they began to fly off.
High in an old dead tree, the female Woodpecker, preens herself in the morning light.

More blooms, emerging.
Doesn't take long for everything to open up.

The Clintonia
is now in bloom.

Enjoy your day!

  1. Grandmother's Journal...seemed like good timing yet again. The Grackle doesn't appear interested at all in you watching. I love to check the ferns on a daily basis as they begin to open! Busy weekend better fasten your seatbelt.
